Dyson's leading cyclone technology for capturing microscopic dust The Dyson DC23 Stowaway Animal offers powerful all-round pet hair removal, it has a mini turbine head, ideal for removing pet hair and dirt from confined spaces such as upholstery, stairs and the car. A hard floor tool gives improved pick up on hard floors and long bristles prevent scratching or marking on delicate floors. Also included is a turbine head which is especially good for pet hair pick up, gives effective pick up on all floor types with no need to change tools– the brushbar can be turned off for delicate rugs and floors. Patented Dyson Root Cyclone and Core Separator technology ensures the DC23 doesn't clog, it uses powerful centrifugal force to spin the dirt out of the air, so there's no loss of suction The Telescopic Wrap System allows the hose and wand to be compressed, and ensures that the Dyson DC23 Stowaway can be stored away neatly and compactly, with no loose components or wires to get tangled. It is constructed from ABS and polycarbonate which means that as well as being compact, the Dyson DC23 Stowaway is also durable and lightweight. Variable suction means you can reduce suction in order to clean curtains, upholstery or rugs without them sticking to the cleaner. A washable HEPA filter means that the air expelled from the Dyson contains up to 150 times less mould and bacteria than the air you breathe. We bought this as a replacement for our 8-year old DC05. It is incredibly powerful, does an excellent job and handles the wirey hair of our border terrier with ease. It is a bit on the heavy side, not really suitable for the less able but the solid build is a plus point really. It stores away neatly and the amount of different heads/tools included is impressive.
Amazon was by far the cheapest supplier, beating even the January sale prices on the high street. It came well-packaged too. Buy with confidence!

Good suction spoilt by flimsy plastic construction,

Compared to my previous Dyson cleaner this one has a fragile feel to all the plastic parts, in particular the clear plastic dust bin. The clear carry handle is not firmly fixed to at the one end and is free move up and down. Given that this handle is also used to carry the cleaner I would have expected a more robust construction. The dustbin assembly is not such a positive fit in the cleaner body as my previous model.
Whilst the cleaner does provide the usual excellent Dyson suction I feel that they have skimped on the build quality considering the price tag.

Upgrading from a resilient DC02 which survived relentless hoovering of plaster and grit from domestic building works I opted for another Dyson. This model chosen particularly because of its superior 1400W motor and, more importantly, 280 airwatts suction (the highest rating I could find and 25% higher than the more expensive Dyson DC21 Motorhead Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner).
In use, on carpet the motorised brush heads are very effective indeed giving noticeably impressive results, picking up hair and dust that the DC02 couldn't and noticeably reviving the appearance of the pile. On relatively smooth wooden floor the suction is obvious, even pulling light dust from the area local to the outside of the suction head. Can't readily fault it. Perhaps the 'plasticy' look, feel and operation of the 'wand' and of course the price, but the results are consistently noticeable.
