Mainly a photographic book, 'Dysfunctional' gives it's reader a taster of the kind of lives that most skaters lead. The photographs are imaginative, real, shocking and at times humourous (don't be mislead by the enourmous bruised bum that appears on one of the first pages!) The book suggests that most skaters live for skating, and do in fact eat, sleep and breathe it too. This is backed up by the photos of skaters sleeping next to ramps, and by some of the things that the skaters themselves say. We also get an insight into the skate art, with a lot of focus on the art work found on skate boards and the graffiti found around skate parks. A very exciting and memorable book, especially for people interested in skating and contemporary photography.
