4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first version, 13 Aug 2006
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I saw this in Japan and imported it from there a couple of months ago. I have not been disapointed with it since. I have been a fan of both Samurai warriors and Dynasty warriors and was disapointed with the first instalment on the PSP.

I found on this one there were a lot more missions that could be done with all the clans and thefore keeps you comming back for more. It is still done in the same style as the first but has more of a "dynasty warriors" feel than the original did.

If you are going to purchase this game then you wont be disapointed. If you are considering buying the first one my advice to you is wait for this instalment.

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This is the Dynasty Warriors I was hoping for when the original was released on the PSP. I was quite disappointed with the first one but as it was one of the first games on the PSP and it must have been difficult designing for a new system i forgave Koei and decided to give this a go. This instalment fixes a lot of the problems that the original had but still has a couple of annoyances.

First off if you are not familiar with Dynasty Warriors you take control of a warrior from ancient China from a choice of 48 and enter the battlefield your task is to battle through the hundreds sometimes thousands of enemy soldiers standing in your way and defeat the enemy commander or meet some other victory condition.

While these games do not not really compare to the console versions they are still very good, they have the same control system and same style of game play but it is modified for the PSP. If you have played the original it's still the same style of small zones which you must gain control of one at a time, its not one large battlefield. This is the first problem as it means the game does not have the same feel as the console versions but it is improved from the original this is because as soon as you finish one area you can click the next and you are straight back into the action with no load time which makes it feel smoother and not stop, start. The environments are quite bland but that doesn't really matter and there is still the problem of soldiers popping up last minute.

The best improvement and one of the most obvious is that it now uses the full screen and not a tiny box during game play. Also the slow down from the first one during action intense moments has pretty much gone. Other new features are being able to collect horses in a stable to use in battles, and the weapons that are collected during the stage are kept, up to eight of each can be stored and all have different stats. The start of each battle is still quite complex choosing officers which improve your stats and posses the skills you might need but don't let that put you off i don't focus on this area too much and i do fine with it. A new feature to levelling up is being able to allocate the experience points to which ever officer you like so if you really want to level someone up you can give them all the points. Another little addition for the fans of Samurai Warriors is that all the warriors from the series are available to collect as non playable officers which you can assign to your team.

Unfortunately there are no cut scenes which were always fantastic in the console versions and weirdly i miss the awful voice acting but that's due to trawling through text before battles. These are probably missing due to the size of the UMD which nothing can be done about.

There is so much to unlock and complete, it will last you a long time so it is real value for money. If you are not a fan of Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors you should steer clear of this as it's not that different from the others. If you are a fan you will enjoy this game even if you did not like the first you should consider giving this one a go.
