Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3

Ok, so my friend is a huge Gundam fan and i've never seen or read anything to do with the franchise in my life. Despite that, I was drawn to this game by the graphical style (cell-shaded) which it seems I can't resist.

So to start off, this game does look very pretty! Although the environments unforunately don't make the most of it. A shame in a way, but the main focus is on the Gundams themselves and there is plenty colour there.

I have to give the game credit because despite not being a fan and thinking once i'd get over the graphics i'd be bored...it has kept me playing, a LOT.
The missions do have very little variation if i'm honest. You start off in a map which is broken up by numerous fields. You must win fields by destoying 100 or so enemies (typically) this reduces the enemies battle gauge. Once their gauge is zero the boss appears. Usually just an Ace pilot or a larger enemy. Beat them and you win.
This does become a bit of a grind at times but being a very big turn based RPG player i do like a bit of grinding. (don't ask me why...).

On the other hand, i find this game does offer a totally different experience if you play on Hard Mode. On Easy you walze in, swing your sword and 100 enemies die in 10 seconds. On Hard Mode - not the case. Each enemy takes a good few hits and when you have other Ace pilots trying to take your fields I find you need to think a lot more about what you're doing.
Most players may not discover this and it's a shame really. I mostly play on Normal because there are 300+ missions but when i fancy a nice long difficult mission i'll stick it on Hard with a lower levelled Gundam for a much more involved experience.

So basically, this game isn't necessarily just for Gundam fans. Although I will admit i've since become one and am watching the original series!!

There is a lot to unlock in the game too. Dozens of pilots and gundams to befriend and level up.
Online mode isn't great. Me and a friend played but you have to create a game, invite and then once the game ends you are back at the start menu and have to invite again. No lobby system is a let down.
But at leats headsets work seemlessly which is not typical on the PS3!!

All in all, i found it to be a fun game

This game offers everything for Dynasty Warriors fans in my opinion. Unlike in previous games the single player mode is actually fun.

Brilliant and addictive.

DLC content is good, will last the user a long time, lots of playable characters and suits, unlockable skills and parts for the suits.

1. Alot of different characters and movesets. Great variety.
2. Fast paced action
3. Great visuals
4. Fans of the anime will ADORE this. Solid story.
5. Great couch multiplayer.
6. Great customization
7. Some nice new gameplay mechanics/additions.

The Not so good:

1. Poor variety of mission stages. Alot of reused arenas.
2. People new to Gundam maybe won't get the story.
3. Alot of grinding needed to unlock all the charcters/suits.

This is only my opinion. This game is immense fun and although I found it slightly repetetive, the gameplay and addictive unlocking of new stuff keeps me playing. Easily worth £20, I feel you would have to be a fan to pay more to not feel a little let down. 7.5/10
