Reviews

All 27 episodes from the fourth season of the long-running American soap following the mixed fortunes of a wealthy Denver oil business family presided over by Blake Carrington (John Forsythe). Scandalous love affairs, dirty business deals, power struggles, catfights and bulging shoulder pads all add to the drama in the show that epitomised the glamour and greed of the 1980s. Episodes are: 'The Arrest', 'The Bungalow', 'The Note', 'The Hearing (Part 1)', 'The Hearing (Part 2)', 'Tender Comrades', 'Tracy', 'Dex', 'Peter De Vilbis', 'The Proposal', 'Carousel', 'The Wedding', 'The Ring', 'Lancelot', 'Seizure', 'A Little Girl', 'The Accident', 'The Vigil', 'Steps', 'The Voice (Part 1)', 'The Voice (Part 2)', 'The Voice (Part 3)', 'Birthday', 'The Check', 'The Engagement', 'New Lady in Town' and 'The Nightmare'.

The fourth season of Dynasty has more of the campy, cheese-tastic goodness this 80's ode-to-greed is famous for. From Dominique Devereaux's sudden appearance--is she a Carrington or isn't she?--to Fallon's flirtations with any male in a thousand mile radius, the fourth season is great stuff. If you're looking for solid acting, gritty drama or realistic situations, keep looking--but if you're in the mood for big hair, fun writing and soul-destroying one-liners, you've just found your ticket to paradise.

*Note- this review contains spoilers!*

I am 2 discs away from finishing Season 4 and I must say I am absolutely loving it and a bit addicted!

This season, so far has been Dynasty at its best. I have loved this season so much I felt compelled to write a review, whereas I haven't for past seasons...
So what to expect in Season 4??? Yes, there are no cat-fights between Krystle and Alexis (although we had a taste of that last season...) but in comes some more deeper, complex (if you can call them that!) storylines, with richer characters to back up the Carrington crew...gone are the likes of Joseph the butler, and Geoffrey Scott (Mark Jennings) takes a back seat in the main plot (quite rightly!)
...and in enters the mysterious saucy Michael Nader, (Dex Dexter- you've got to love the ridiculous name alone!) and the comically camp-sounding Peter De Vilbis (Fallon's new love interest).
Adam Carrington takes a turn personality-wise- from being the 'evil Carrington' to the 'vulnerable Carrington', but does that make him less attractive?? Well I still like to watch him, even though his crocodile-like smile makes little appearances this season...

Jeff Colby gets to show off a bit of chest hair, as the directors give him a dark edge when he cheats on Kirby with his long-time (true)love. It's probably about time they spice things up for dull Jeff! He gets all territorial when De Vilbis comes along, which is also fun to watch!

Helmet Burger (yes that's the actors name!) who plays De Vilbis is even camper than the so called 'gay' Steven Carrington. De Vilbis is so slimy you can't help but want to watch more- (this is only something that could have been produced in the 80's!

Why do the corporates habitually delay UK releases? This great set is out already in Germany and in Holland, but here in Britain we have to wait and wait, and now it seems it won't be accessible till Easter! Haven't they learned their lesson from LOST, where delaying and withholding didn't build up a bigger audience-in-waiting but instead lost them a major share of the viewing public. People get bored with these half-witted marketing tactics. We're supposed to be living in a global world - so why play tedious provincial games? Wake up: release it everywhere at the one time. Anticipation can turn into irritation when it's been dragged on for far too long.
