I ordered this as didn't want to pay much for a case, especially as 2.5 inch cases are really cheap, but I had a 3.5 inch drive so this had to be the choice.

I also liked the dual interface option, my drive is IDE, but I may use a SATA later. I did note there is space in the case for both sets of interface cables, so if you change you wont find the other lost.

Included: Case, foot, interface cable, PSU & mains lead, USB lead, screwdriver.

Quality: Average and as expected for the price, the case has no fan & states it uses the case itself (aluminum) as a heatsink, though how effective that will be when the its effectively insulated from the drive is unclear. The circular vertical foot is in fact a separate piece, is tight fitting & works well, I would advise vertical use to maximize heat loss.

Performance: The drive is very quiet in the case (A Western Digital) but the front drive light only indicates power status, not drive operation. Speed is standard for a USB 2 external drive.

Manual: Very Poor. Only gives specifications & basic installation instructions (incomplete). It fails to mention that to remove the caddie from the case, remove the rear panel then pull the caddie out from the front. It also fails to mention correct drive link settings, if these are set wrong the drive usually fails to be recognized, I placed a link in the CS (Cable Select) point & all was fine.

I was surprised to note the unit price varies a lot, after I ordered the price dropped by nearly £2, so don't rush to order.

Done the video showing what you get and the installation of a hard drive. Really quite pleased with it. Installation was simple enough, thou getting the front plastic casing to sit flush with the metal housing was tricky. Wouldn't have affected it working, but looks better.
In the video I hold up the instruction booklet, I just wanted to say that this only has a USB connection. The instruction booklet also listed firewire, e-sata etc. For other models of this I guess.
The hard drives it can handle are IDE or SATA 1,2 and 3 and will plug into a USB 1,2 or 3 on the computer.
I ran out of time in the video (10min max) to show it powered up, the front light is blue and only indicates that its turned on, has no light to indicate when its being used (blinking light).

My only concern, but more a problem for the listing, is that it doesn't state what's the maximum hard drive size it can handle, it will have one as it's governed by the power adaptor and how much power (amps) it can deliver over the 12v and 5v feeds. Put a 2TB drive in and I think it wouldn't last long until the power adaptor burnt out and stopped working. Looking at the power output and comparing it to a 1TB and then to a 1.5TB hard drives rated power requirements, I think nothing more than a 1TB hard drive max.

But overall for me, it works well, looks not to bad and for the price it ok, 4 stars. Any problems and I will update this review

I ordered three of these. I wasn't expecting much at £12 each and I was not disappointed. The product appearance was different from the web picture but was of the same manufacturer. The build quality was not fantastic but was adequate. The manual made amusing reading! I have tested two of the three and they both appear to work. The counter sunk-screws supplied were 1mm too long for both HDD that I tried so the HDD are not held securely. The blue LED on the front only appears to indicate that the device is powered and there is no drive access state indicator (despite what the manual says about checking that the activity LED is out before removing the USB drive).

So, in summary, I got what I expected and I am happy.

A snug fit for your hard drive, don't listen to people who say their drives don't fit, I've made a number of these up out of old 3.5" IDE and SATA drives, the fit is very tight, even down to the notch in the PCB and connector, there is no spare space here...

Don't bother with the enclosed screw driver, it is practically useless and the screws are typical Chinese metal, soft as butter, the heads can be easily mashed and threads easily crossed.

The problem here is the power supply, it is truly awful, it gets very, very hot (bad sign) and emits a *lot* of radio frequency energy... You will be replacing it sooner rather than later, it uses a very unusual DIN connector, like a PS/2 keyboard connector, and had +5V and +12V outputs, so a replacement power supply is likely to require some soldering skills...

For the sake of a few pennies, a better power supply would have been welcome.

I bought this to put the hard disc into from a failed PC (M/board fault).

I bought it as it supports supports IDE and SATA.

Taking it apart was trivial, fitting the disc was also trivial.

When assembled and put in its 'cradle' it actually looks good. It has a LED that shows power/HDD activity. It is, despite what it says on the box, powered by a 13 plug and small transformer.

It also includes an A-B USB cable.
