Quality of this card is rubbish.

I put the card in a new machine I've just built, plugged in the molex connector
into the card and straight away the two plastic grubs that are holding the connector
to the circuit card came through the card and bent the socket back on the pins!!
I then tried to repush the plastic grubs back through the holes and the socket
won't stay in plastic.

I then noticed even if I managed to get the socket to stay in place, the whole socket
moved around in general and you could see the pins moving on the underside of the board.

Given most cards are mounted upside down, the pins will be holding the full weight of the
molex plug, thus I reckon the pins on the circuit board will break within a few months
and the card will need replacing.

I didn't even get as far as starting it up to use the card!

Sent straight back to amazon for a full refund.

Avoid at all costs.

The product claims to be compatible with Windows 8 but it isn't - there is no driver. The company, Dynamode, are just as bad and do not reply to messages. They provide a disk in the package labelled "driver" but it is a collection of useless utilities. I recommend you avoid this product and anything else from the vendor.

It is annoying that motherboard manufacturers do not appear to think that Firewire use is necessary these days. I have a Sony Camcorder which is a few years old now but still works, even though it is not used very often. Having upgraded my PC with a new motherboard, as the old one died, and installed Windows 7, I was annoyed that Sony did not offer Windows 7 drivers for the Camcorder, and as I had taken Video of my Granddaughter's Nativity I could not transfer it to my PC via Bluetooth.

Thank goodness these cards are still made. I fitted it to the motherboard, loaded the drivers, connected the Firewire cable to the PC and Camcorder. and transferring the Video to the PC was a doddle.

The review is about the product and NOT the seller.

Detected and drivers automatically install under Windows 7 x64. Connect a firewire cable and it works.
Both external sockets were a little loose but got progressively worse after only a few days. When you can get the cable to stay in the socket it works without a problem. I have 4 firewall cables from different manufacturers and they are all the same, so the problem is definitely with the sockets on the card. It's probably possible to squeese the sockets a little using pliers with the card removed but I have not tried that yet.

My new computer did not have a firewire link and I use a Panasonic miniDV camcorder. This unit links up and operates the camera through my editing suite and delivers good video and audio quality. My only gripe is that when you pause the camcorder on playback the audio breaks up and makes a noise until the pause is released. This is not a great problem really as I normally download the full tape in one go before editing, I only noticed this when I was trying out the unit. Cheap as chips for value!

After installing, Windows 7 automatically installed the drivers and it works exactly as expected.

I didn't use the "1394 Driver" mini-CD supplied, it doesn't actually appear to include any drivers anyway, just (very) outdated versions of software you either already have or don't need.
