The first one ordered arrived damaged, this was not the fault of Amazon i must point out, the metal plate that attaches to the board was bent and could not be fitted into the machine. Amazon kindly sent a replacement and this one was better though it must be said that the metal plate still does not fit flush to the PC case like it should. The most ridiculously annoying part of this item is the driver disc (found hiding between the cardboard packaging). THIS IS NOT PLUG AND PLAY DESPITE BEING ADVERTISED AS SUCH. After over an hour of trying to search for a driver through the many unhelpfully titled folders on the CD (it doesn't autorun) I resorted to checking through the reviews for help. YORKSHIRE WALKER was the savior here. My system is a 64 bit Windows 7 setup. The driver you need is located in the bottom file named Q351. The driver name is CH35XDRV. Once I installed this the PC recognises COM3 and COM4. AT LAST!!!!

My advice is that it works, once the insanely confusing driver CD is figured out. Read the reviews for help first!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not an easy install this Dynamode serial card... 8 April 2014
Verified Purchase
I upgraded my PC to an Ankerman Sorbus A8-6600K last week which I purchased from Amazon. This is a 64 bit PC running Windows 7. Like most computers these days this one did not include a serial port but I need one to control a motorised antenna rotator. So I purchased this PCI card.

It took over an hour to get the card working, but I got there eventually.

The package states "Plug and Play automatically selects IRQ and I/O address". No way. The driver does not automatically install itself. I studied other reviews and e-mailed one correspondent (Ken Whelpdale) to see if he could e-mail me a driver. As I awaited a reply I restarted fiddling around by removing the card, reinstalling it, trying to find a driver on the PC. I was just about to give up when I noticed some cellophane protruding between the plastic package the card came in and the cardboard backing. I pulled this out and inside was a mini CD-ROM containing driver files. There was no information on the packaging to say this was included!

I loaded the disk and tried to reinstall the card automatically. The PC did not find the driver itself from the CD-ROM. By trial and error I found the driver in one of the 14 folders on the disk. It was in the Q351 folder and the driver file. It is called CH35XDRV.

After manually installing the driver from this file I now have COM 3 and COM 4 configured. I can confirm that the driver is by Winchiphead as stated in a Amazon question and answers for the product by Ken Whelpdale.

I hope this information is useful if you buy this card....

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect 7 Nov 2013

No problem with installation and set up. Works perfectly for a DGT chess board that uses a serial cable where a serial to usb converter cable kept producing errors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as described 4 Jan 2013
Needed a Serial port for my EPOS system, not many products like this around and works on Windows 7 also, loads cheaper than other vendors.
