Product Description

Achieve Breakthrough Business Flexibility and Agility by Integrating SOA and BPM Thousands of enterprises have adopted Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based on its promise to help them respond more rapidly to changing business requirements by composing new solutions from existing business services. To deliver on this promise, however, companies need to integrate solid but flexible Business Process Management (BPM) plans into their SOA initiatives. Dynamic SOA and BPM offers a pragmatic, efficient approach for doing so. Top IBM® SOA architect Marc Fiammante takes you step-by-step through combining BPM and SOA, and using them together to build a more flexible, dynamic enterprise. Throughout the book, he emphasizes hands-on solutions based on his experience supporting dozens of enterprise SOA implementations. Practical from start to finish, Dynamic SOA and BPM squarely addresses two of the most critical challenges today’s IT executives, architects, and analysts face: implementing BPM as effectively as possible and deriving more value from their SOA investments.

A lot of introductory SOA and BPM literature paint a "blue sky" picture of these architecture paradigms. This book doesn't fall in that category. This is an advanced book, clearly based a very mature experince of applying SOA in large and complex environments. It's a short book that tackle very complex issues, then it is not always easy to read...but it is certainly worth the effort. I am not rating it 5 stars only because the content is heavily focused on IBM technologies.

This book is a "must-read" for anyone contemplating true end-to-end BPM across all the process variants/silos that any enterprise has. This book explains how you can componentise your proceses in a dynamic soa architecture to make them truely agile and configurable by the business using a business language (ontology). End-to-end BPM across silos with generic SOA and BPM will probably end in tears - this book tells you how to avoid those problems!

Unintelligible 17 Jan 2010
By C. Beck - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Although the author obviously has plenty of experience and knowledge, it isn't relayed to the reader. Through paragraph after paragraph, I feel bludgeoned with words that don't seems to say much. Things that can be said very simply are obscured by the puffed-up language. The first chapter seems to assume that you're already doing extensive BPM in your enterprise.

In all, I can't make it through all the words to find the nuggets - and I'm an enterprise architect for a large organization.

BTW, the diagrams will be barely readable on a Kindle.

Excellent Book. Highly recommended. Precise and to the point. Articulates the concepts of process variability and modularity through the Creation of modular process modules being assembled dynamically by policies and being internally data driven.

Really helps understand the issues *& approaches 18 Jan 2010
By S. Carrato - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I'm an architect (Open Group Distinguished IT Architect, in fact) who has been working on SOA for years. I also co-chair The Open Group's SOA Work Group. Marc takes on tough topics in this book and it's the 1st such book which really provides concrete guidance on issues like how to architect a dynamic solution. Most other discussions talk about the fact that's desirable but leave you without any specific steps to take.

This is NOT a simple topic but it's an important one. I recommend this book for any architect who needs to create designs which support dynamic solutions.
