Having said that, you should not experience any pain providing you warm up properly first as per the pack instruction booklet and you don't try and overdo things.
I realise that I should have bought the lower resistance band as being disabled I am not that fit and the only real exercise I can do is to walk for short periods. However, I bought this specifically to tone my upper arms particularly the backs as bingo wings are not a good look! I have been doing exercises previous to this so the band wasn't too hard for me to use. I did ache somewhat afterwards though. My husband had a triple bypass operation in January and is now back to near full fitness and he is going great guns with this amazing band although even he admits that certain exercises hurt.
To summarise I would suggest as a total novice you purchase the lower resistance bands and work your way up or even add bands as you progress in fitness and strength.
The only thing you need is commitment now and you should end up with a nicely toned body.

I have this in my bag at work and often do a few simple execises working the upper body, only a few minutes a day and I have noticed my posture at my desk has improved....no more slouching and my arms and shoulders are more defined.
Shame it does not come with a CD to help decipher the more advanced moves within the instruction booklet. Most of the execises are simple and repetative. I found the more you use the resistance band the easier it is to fit into your busy lifestyle.

Bought this as a replacement for the band included with EA Sports, which doesn't offer enough resistance. However, it's far too short and I'm only 5ft 5in, which makes me suspect that it's now even shorter then it was when previous reviewers purchased it. It's not even long enough to stand on and do the bicep curls as instructed, never mind pulling it right above my head for shoulder exercises. It would help if there was a length given in the sales details. If you're after a band for EA sports, keep looking.
