If you are using the Dylon Dyes, you must use 500g of salt in order for the dye to set. I have used table salt most often but these packs are handy - they are they right weight and the salt is fine. A more expensive way to add the salt but a jolly handy one. I do a lot of machine wash dyeing using the Dylon Dyes and now often use their salt pack for convenience too. Wonderful dyes, worth using. Good, full and rich colours, and excellent results using their machine wash dyes.

bought this to go with the dye. However when I read the instructions on the dye I could actually have used normal salt which would have been a lot cheaper. Ill know better next time

This salt packet is practical and useful, especially if you are dying large amounts of fabric. I would recommend it strongly for beginner dyers.

It is somewhat comforting to know that this is the 'right kind of salt' ... even though maybe any salt would have done the job!

With most popular home-dye products (like Dylon), you don't need to use a specialised 'dye salt'. Just normal cooking / eating salt will do the job fine. And you can buy it at the supermarket, and save the delivery price.
Nothing against this particular brand of 'dye salt'... but can't see why anyone would need it!

This Dylon salt can be replaced with regular salt that you use on your kitchen. Bought it just in case.

This was something that was required in order to use the Dylon Machine dye, also purchased at the same time.

Yes - it's true! You do require 500g of salt for one of the Dylon dyes....
BUT having ordered my Dylon dye I have just purchased a 1.5KG bag of salt from Tesco - enough for three boxes of dye -
and I have paid the grand sum of 79p.(26p per 500g)
The same amount of salt from Dylon costs £8.97!!
Ordinary salt from any outlet does the job just as well...
Do not be fooled into buying this hugely overpriced product!
Well done to the employee at Dylon who came up with the idea to market a product with vast profit margins that some people would ACTUALLY purchase for 'convenience'!
