Product Description

Product Description

A unique recording with Dylan Thomas reading his own work, as he meant it to be read.

Because Dylan Thomas often wrote as much for the sound of his poetry as for its meaning, he was extraordinarily well-suited to the task of interpreting his own works on audio, the more so for his unforgettably rich, magical voice and dramatic style.

This recording is the preservation of a unique literary resource, a fascinating introduction to the complete experience of Dylan Thomas’ manipulation of language. The poems in this collection are those that he most often chose for his famous public readings and can therefore be considered the ones Dylan Thomas himself wanted us to know.

Includes such favourites as Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, Fern Hill, And Death Shall Have no Dominion plus many more.

About the Author

Dylan Thomas began his career as a journalist in his native village of Swansea, Wales. He then moved to London where he worked in broadcasting and wrote film scripts, prose and drama to earn enough money to enable him to write what he most wanted to – poetry. He lived with his wife and three children until his untimely death in New York in 1953.

If you like the poetry of Dylan Thomas then you will love this. To actually here the great man himself reading his own poetry as he wrote it to be read! It adds a whole new aspect to the poem and you can hear the passion and power in his voice - many of the poems being read like a sermon.

no one else could read these poems as Dylan Thomas did, they gain all another beauty through his melancolic and deep voice

This CD was bought expressly to hear Dylan reading " Do Not Go Gentle" so if this is one of your favourites then beware! i was really looking forward to receiving it and would have liked to have reviewed it. Sadly, although the CD cover was correct, as was the label, the CD itself turned out to be an entirely different Thomas recording. It comes from Amazon Europe so obviously they can't tell the difference!!
