Linda Howard has done it again.. yet another superb on the edge of your seat read.. I found myself holding my breath many times through out the book...Sarah is a Butler cum bodyguard and works for a retired Judge.. they become close she foils a break in but during her minutes of fame.. and tv new coverage a person develops a fixation on her.. firstly he offers her a job which she refuses.. he then starts to stalker her and remove obsticles in his way of getting her.. she in turn falls in love with the police officer who comes to the scene of the break-in..not giving to much away.. but as the books develops so the situation becomes more tense...
Very enjoyable read... worth every penny...

Apparently Ms. Howard has a very good reputation as a writer. 'Dying to Please' being the first (and most likely last) book of hers I picked up to read, I'd have never guessed that from my unfortunate experience. I managed to endure all of five chapters of it. Flat characters, ridiculous dialogue, lack of any elegance in the terribly rambling style and forced, unrealistic beginning - which normal, experienced CPO (Close Protection Operative) would keep their mobile phone in their car at night instead of right next to their bedside in case of emergencies like the one the novel starts with?? - entirely put me off reading further. Another thing which annoyed me in the extreme (and I am in no way, shape, or form a prude) was the fact that despite the age range of the two main characters being past the 'teen, the way they obsessively drooled over each other was more fit to the hidden notebook of a teenage wannabe-writer rather than a suspense novel which wants to be taken seriously. If there was a way to give it zero stars, I would have. Very, very poor read, would not recommend it to anyone.

I was very disappointed in this book as it seems not to have been written by the same linda howard as past books - it was not in the same style and was dull and uninteresting
sorry but i would not recommnend this to anyone that is a linda howard fan!

I was really looking for to another fantastic read from Linda Howard. I was sorely disappointed, this book was not up to her usual high standards, the characters were one-dimesional and hastily formed, the plot tired and uninspiring. I sincerely hope that Howard will return to the high level as shown by books such as 'All the Queen's Men' and 'Open Season'.

I waited and waited for this book but was sadley disappointed when I read it. Although LH's books can be hot and exciting and this certainly had some hot sex, for some reason I just did not enjoy it as much as some of her other books. I could not get a feel for the main characters so consequently could not warm to them. I refuse to believe LH has lost her touch, but I think trying to combine intrigue, suspense, danger and rommance in one story is just not working. Please LH go back to your original style. I'm only giving her 4 stars because I love her work not this book.

Not of the same style or humour as some of Linda Howard's other books, certainly, but still a good bit of light entertainment to see you through a dark winter's night! However, it was harder to relate to the hero here, because not enough time was spent building his character, making him quite two dimensional.
Not mind-blowing or life changing stuff, but then I don't think it pretends to be anything other than a good yarn, which is exactly what it is.

This is only my second book by this author and in a lot of ways I enjoyed it. She actually writes a good mystery and the thriller plot is good. However, it is spoilt by the so called romance and steamy sex scenes which run through it. I felt this did nothing for the book and actually spoilt the plot. It is a shame as Linda Howard is capable of writing a first class thriller, which parts of this are. This is the reason I kept reading as I wanted to find out the ending. If you like both thrillers and sex in one fell swoop then I am sure you will like this book, otherwise, concentrate on books containing one or the other.
