Product Description

Product Description

By the time she eventually went into recovery, after a number of false starts, her arms were shrivelled, withered and blackened from the effects of repeated injections. She had suffered every degradation possible. But miraculously she managed to stop. This is Rachael Keogh's own story written in her own words. She is now twenty-nine, a student of psychotherapy, an attractive and optimistic young woman. Her story is a remarkable account of recovery from the very edge of personal destruction. It is a heart-lifting story of personal human redemption.

About the Author

Drug addiction laid bare 29 April 2009
Format:Paperback
This is what they used to call a 'warts and all' book. It spares nothing in its honesty of what drugs can do to a life.

Rachael Keogh was a normal girl living in the working class district of Dublin called Ballymun. The book charts her descent from this normality into a crazed world of heavy drug dependency and the ensuing crime to pay for her habit. Time in prison is also detailed and the desperate struggle to beat her addiction.

Ultimately, Dying to Survive is about redemption, for Rachael is alive and well, studying in college and mum to a little boy.

A fantastic read, highly recommended,

Dying to Survive 12 May 2010
Format:Paperback
I was hoping to use this book as a deterrent for young people who are setting out on the road to drug addiction but felt after reading it that it would not be suitable for that. It was certainly an interesting read which gave me insight into how it is to be the person with the addiction and also the frustration that was being felt by those who loved and tried to help that person. In the end it was a simple lesson - the only one that can save you is yourself.

great book! 5 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
This book is a hard-hitting story, as much as the drug addicts of society bring so much pain to their families and everyone around them, I ccouldnt help but feel for rachel, heroin is a poison which should be avoided at all costs. It brings nothing but pain and misery to communities! Rachel keogh should be overwhelmed with her progress and so proud of her little family. Great read.
