Is DCI' Woodend feeling the strain?,
By
This review is from: Dying Fall (DCI Woodend) (Hardcover)
Dying Fall is well up to the normal standard one has become to expect from Sally Spencer. This is an intriguing police procedural which continues the cases of the likable DCI Charlie Woodend and his team. It has a tight plot line with some deft touches of wry humour. The plot nevertheless from time to time dips into the black and beyond which allows the reader to search into the characters of its cast. Occasionally I was tempted to pause my reading so as to delay what I suspected might happen, and any book which can achieve this must be well written. The story involves some apparently motiveless killings of a particularly gruesome nature which are coupled with political intrigue. The dénouement is fulfilling but sad as if what I suspect is to happen before long actually occurs it will be a great loss. As usual with Sally Spencer's books I recommend it wholeheartedly.
