Product Description

An indispensable companion to your wide-angle lens, DxO ViewPoint corrects perspective problems and restores the natural shapes of the subjects located on the edges of your photos.

Characteristics and features:

- Correction of distortion: Thanks to DxO Optics Modules, you can perfectly correct any lens distortion (barrel, pincushion, or fisheye).

- Fixing perspectives: Restore the original forms of buildings. Vertical and horizontal lines are once again parallel, unnatural-looking façades regain their original appearance.

- Correction of volume deformation: Restore the true proportions of distorted subjects on the edges of your photos and correct stretched-out faces and enlarged bodies in just one click. - Straighten the horizon: Rebalance your landscape photos by perfectly straightening out a slanted horizon.

- Automatic cropping: DxO ViewPoint's cropping feature automatically optimizes the visible field no matter what corrections you make.

- Change the angle of the shot: Modify your shooting angle after the fact so that your shot will exactly match the image that you want to produce.

- Visual tools: Place the anchor points directly on your images to indicate the lines to fix. Thanks to the Loupe tool, you can position them very precisely at all zoom levels.

- Plugin and standalone application: Use DxO ViewPoint as a standalone application and as a plugin for Adobe® Photoshop®, Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom®, Adobe® Photoshop® Elements, and Apple® Aperture®.

Handy for editing/straightening wide angle shots of buildings Allowing good adjustment to align buildings in the vertical/horizontal planes
Worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works very well 5 May 2014

I have both ViewPpoint and Optics Pro 9 by DXO labs. I purchased this product just before my trip to Vegas and the Grand Canyon, thinking that I'd need it to correct my UWA Tokina lens when shooting at 12mm to 18mm (it goes up to 28mm).

As it turns out, it was an excellent purchase.

While Optics Pro corrected the pictures to a degree automatically, I was able to use ViewPoint to bring it to exactly where I wanted it to be. In addition, the horizon tool on ViewPoint is much easier to use due to the "jewelers loupe" feature.

If I have any complaints about the product at all, it's that it won't open RAW files - you have to open the exported jpg (or whatever format), and then - assuming you want the product to do its automated thing, which you usually do - you have to browse to and pick the RAW file that the exported picture came from. It's a minor annoyance, but the results are worth it.

Let me clarify - if you shoot in JPG, then the program will open and provide automatic corrections. If you shoot in RAW (as I do), then you have to find and open the RAW before the JPG can be corrected. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the few that still looks good after extensive use 12 Mar 2014

I shoot subjects with lenses that emphasis perspective issues. After working with perspective correcting features of popular photo editing software, Viewpoint makes it easy. Most of the time the fix is as simple as dragging a single control point into parallel with other elements of the photo. I can also change aspect ratio, rotate point view, crop and alter horizon with the same simple control.

Even after modification, sharpness is not lost, nor does distortion appear in other areas of an image. Good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars DxO Viewpoint 2 - the inseparable software compagnon of a wide-angle lens 9 Feb 2014
By LesC - Published on Amazon.com
I mainly shoot my photos between 10mm and 17mm, but the first results were not always what I expected. The cause of my disappointment was the unavoidable lens distortion that ultrawide and wide angle lenses bring about. DxO Optics Pro was my first solution, as this software contains maybe the greatest database of camera body + lens combinations available. But ViewPoint, a rather new application from the same DxO can do a lot more. Besides the classic lens distortions, it fixes, with hardly more than the click of a mouse, phenomena like anamorphosis (whereby people at the outer sides of the photo appear groteskly distorted) and perspective distortion (both horizontal and vertical) which usually occurs if you do not hold the camera in the exact (perpendicular) position with regard to your subject. Especially photographs of architecture often need this correction. I cannot do without DxO Viewpoint 2!

3.0 out of 5 stars Crash, Crash, Crash 13 Jun 2014
By Robert A. Peschka - Published on Amazon.com
DxO Viewpoint 2 was installed on my primary computer. When attempting to open a digital photo file, the application crashes and closes. I found I could drag and drop the photo and then touch it up, but when trying to save it, the application CRASHES! PC is late model HP, OS WIN8, 8 gig RAM, big hard drive, and is used with several digital processing programs, i.e., Photomatix, Stacker, Lightroom 4, Paintshop Pro, etc. No problems with any of them. I have had numerous email exchanges with DxO Support. I provided copies of all files they requested. They lost the files I sent them! AMAZON must share the blame. The advertisement on Amazon says it works with WIN 8, but on the DxO FAQ web site, it says it only works with XP, Vista and WIN 7. So what's your excuse Amazon? I checked out the application on an old laptop running Vista and it worked fine, so it does meet the DxO FAQs, but clearly does not work on my WIN 8 as advertised by Amazon.

UPDATE 6/19/2014: DxO Support advised me that my Seagate Replica software (for an outboard backup drive) was the culprit. I had to remove all Seagate entries from the Registry and then remove another offending Seagate file, which then allowed DxO Viewpoint 2 to run properly. BOTTOM LINE: DxO Support finally got me pointed in the right direction, and after disabling the Seagate Replica backup drive software, Viewpoint functioned as it should.
