On a hunt to save her sister, the last thing Beri O’Dell needs is love. Aren’t demons bad enough?

Beri O’Dell, Book 1

Beri O’Dell is investigating paranormal creatures because she wants to know what she is. Taller and stronger than most men, she astral projects and can peel through dimensional layers to see the creatures and spirits beyond.

She once helped her foster sister, Detective Elsa Remington, track down killers in Jacksonville, Florida, but stopped when a nasty fire elemental turned her strength against her. Now, she finds herself pulled back when something steals Elsa’s soul and puts her into a coma.

With little time to spare, Beri searches for the reason behind her sister’s coma. She has help in her spirit guides Fred and Phro, but others come along for the ride, including a pyro-nervous witch, and an androgynous necromancer.

The last thing Beri needs is to fall in love with a mysterious stranger. But the handsome Minoan warrior Nikolos knows what creature she’s after because he’s battled it before.

It’s bad.

Really, really bad.

He calls it the Dweller on the Threshold.

Warning: Contains a worried heroine with no time, a witch with fire problems, a pissed-off necromancer, a trapped goddess, and a damned sexy, but scary, warrior. Throw in bloody battles, mass-murderer history lessons and a bit of sexy time and you get the start of Beri’s new life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed 3 Dec 2013

I like this book, I enjoyed that it was a little bit different with slightly different characters without going so much out of the zone of regular paranormal that you feel like you're reading the wrong genre and by someone that's just writing so differently just to not be 'stereotyped'.
I liked the characters, i liked that someone who should be cold and unfeeling and someone you shouldn't like became someone you felt a connection to and could imagine meeting. I liked the small twists and turns in the book, the relationships between the characters was believable and the romance was also not just thrown in as an extra, but developed well enough to understand these two together as the events around them unfold.
Def worth a read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique name and unique story 28 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Dweller on the Threshold: Beri O'Dell Series, Book 1

Dweller on the Threshold - a unique name and a very unique book. When I first read it in April after it was released I wasn't yet doing book reviews as a hobby, but I loved this story so much I had to say something! Now that Blood of an Ancient (the second book in the series) has been released, I went back to reread this one to make sure a) I didn't miss anything and b) I re-wrote a review worthy of a brilliant story.

Ms Elliott is definitely a keeper. This book grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go right until the last. Beri, a stunningly beautiful girl with an unknown past and unknown abilities, is drawn into a darker world of mayhem and murder as she goes head-to-head with a terrifying, soul eating evil that's out to destroy the world. While the over-riding good against evil prevails, that's the only similarity this book has with many others of its genre.

The storyline is refreshingly new, the characters brilliantly created, the relationships that develop are heart-warming, humourous and realistic - and Beri's love interest is sizzling hot and sensual. It's also not often a story endears the secondary characters so well that you find yourself rooting for them right alongside the heroine! And the heroine - oh boy, Beri's tall, kick-ass snarkiness is all wrapped up in a beautiful, flame haired package! And with all the foibles and insecurities any normal girl would feel, having been rejected time and time again by a multitude of foster families. Beri is a dichotomy resulting in beauty within and without.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dweller on the threshold 4 Nov 2013

This is a fast paced book.
The main character is easy to connect wit however I would have personally liked a touch more wittyness.
There is a lot to take in and learn and at times I felt the book moving to fast to unravel all the information. However it was good in the respect I was unable to guess the ending and all the links. Sure I had an idea but it was refreshing to still be guessing until it was all revealed.
Looking forward to read the next book.
Defiantly worth the purchase.
