Format:Audio CD
I first heard this recording in Prague when I visited Dvorak's house which is now a small but wonderful museum...and well worth a visit. The music was playing over the sound system there and haunted me for the entire visit. When I heard the opening Allegro on the B Concerto and the beautiful second Adagio movement of the same concerto I knew I had to have this CD and bought it on impulse immediately from the bookshop there!The Supraphon label may not be familiar to all but believe me this recording is wonderful and the Cello playing is absolutely mesmerising.Sadlo evokes feelings of melancholy,hope and redemption throughout his faultless interpretation of the music. The CPO are masters of Dvorak's music and sweep us along with a feast of sensory and uplifting pleasure that will make your spine tingle. The music is beautiful and I just do not know how someone can create such wonderful pieces.Sadlo and the CPO will carry you away and you will find yourself playing this recording time and time again. On both price and quality this CD of both Dvorak Cello Concertos(a rarity in itself)stands as one of Supraphon's best recordings and I cannot recommend it enough.

I suddenly realised that, despite being able to whistle most of it, I didn't have a recording of the Dvorak cello concerto and this CD has the bonus of the lesser known one as well so in I pitched.
This is a perfectly enjoyable cd but it is a relatively old recording and the sound betrays this to some extent. It's not a deal breaker but I'm sure there are more modern sounding recordings out there. Also, when preparing the tracks to be put onto my music player I noticed that the first track fades into the orhestral introduction : no music is lost but it seems very odd to fade into what is, as far as I can make out, a studio recording.
At this bargain price I won't complain and it is a rewarding listen so I feel I've done well.

Lovely recording just like being in the Albert Hall, I highly recommend this recording. The Cello is one of my most favourite instruments, anyone who like Cello music this is a must have.
