Two classic Beecham performances. The 'live' Sibelius is, even after all these years, something that makes the hairs stand on the back of the neck! Are there any conductors today who could produce such a barnstorming finale? The sheer physicality of it comes through in this classic recording. The Dvor'ák is characterised chiefly by the wonderful woodwind playing of the Royal Philhamonic of the time, and a finale that lifts the listener out of his/her seat! The latest re-mastering has given the venerable recordings an extra shine and all in all this is not a CD to be missed, no matter how many recordings you have of these works.
