This is a most convenient way of acquiring the key works Dvorak wrote for violin and piano, and it is all beautifully performed by an expert duo. The Sonatina is well known among amateur violinists as one of the 'playable' worthwhile works by a major composer ; the Sonata is tougher technically and musically (and a better piece, indeed one that deserves to be much better known than it is). Both are played idiomatically and very musically, with a high level of understanding between the players. The same can be said for all the shorter pieces, and I would put in a special word for the very beautiful and haunting early 'Ballad'. Dvorak is one of the most lovable of all great composers, and this CD, very well recorded, does him full justice
