Product Description

"Justice is blind - which is handy because sometimes you need to pull a fast one."

Continuing the trials and tribulations of Scots defence lawyer, Robbie Munro.

When local lawyer Max Abercrombie is gunned down in cold blood, the historic town of Linlithgow is shocked by its first assassination in five hundred years. Robbie, Max’s childhood friend, is appalled to find himself duty bound to act in the accused's defence, but when his investigations reveal a link between his friend’s murder and that of a High Court judge many years before, he wonders if his client might actually be an innocent man. The more Robbie digs into the past, the closer he gets to the truth and the more the bodies pile up. 90k words.

Duty Man is the second in a series of smart, fast-moving, crime novels by Scottish criminal defence lawyer, William McIntyre, featuring an engagingly head-strong protagonist and exploiting the kind of authentic court-room, prison and procedural details that stem from years of first-hand experience. The action is centred around the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow in West Lothian and roams over the Larger Central Belt of Scotland.

After finishing the brilliant Relatively Guilty I dived straight in to this, the equally enjoyable sequel Duty Man. Yet again, we hook up with defence lawyer Robbie Munro who, being the "duty man" is forced to act for the supposed murderer of a childhood friend of his. Almost against his will Robbie starts to wonder if the young lad the police are holding for the crime might actually be innocent.
The book throws the reader a number of red herrings along the way and the end was a surprise.
As I said in my review of Relatively Guilty, the thing I love about these books are the great characters the author draws and the sharp humorous dialogue which jumps off the page at you and makes reading this book such a delight.
I hope there will be more books to come in this series as these books are great fun.

Great Stuff! 14 May 2011
By Jimbo
Format:Kindle Edition
Being a Scot but living in England, I tend to enjoy Tartan Noir and things about Scotland - so gave these (Relatively Guilty and Duty Man) a go due to the price and the reviews. So glad that I read them. The viewpoint of a Defence Solicitor and the neds that he tends to have to look after whilst being involved with some very dodgy characters due to his previous work with an upmarket legal firm in Glasgow but now trying to go it alone in West Lothian, is an interesting take on your usual thriller genre. I am not sure that Linlithgow would be able to sustain the amount action that goes on, so utilising Edinburgh and Glasgow is neat trick. The books are extremely readable, the plots are very well woven together and of a good length. The central character Robbie Munroe is a flawed guy who is trying to make ends meet as a solicitor and has a liberal view on jurisprudence. This is tempered by his dad, an ex-cop, who tends to have a go at his son, when he finds out from ex-colleagues, what his son is up to. Great interactions between the family and staff members at his law firm. I cannot believe that Mr McIntyre has not got a regular publishing deal - he is very talented and I hope to read more from him. My recommendation is to buy and enjoy - at this price, you are missing out on a darn good yarn!

Magic! Get it on tv 5 Dec 2011

I'm just loving the Robbie Munro books and I love the fact I discovered them before there were like 126 in the series. I actually read the 2nd book before the the first but I loved them both. I can see it being made into a tv series. I'm thinking John Michie is a shoe-in to play Robbie Munro.
Anyhooooooooooo I thoroughly recommend this book, I love the humour, the imagery and the great storyline. I hope there are many more to come.
