This is an "army list" for the Field of Glory:Renaissance rules covering the period from Louis XIV's personal rule to 1698. Each Army has a historical introduction (of a decent standard) followed by charts that attempt to replicate that history in terms of the rules. The Ancient period (where these rules started) is noted for the wide range of combat types, but the era of Louis XIV sees many armies that are, essentially, the same. It will be interesting to see how effective the book is in recreating these less distinct forces. The book is well-illustrated, both from Osprey books and in pictures of well-painted figures in a wide range of scales.
Given the difficulties of reading much on the topic in English (even I, the laziest of men, have been driven to make translations)gives this volume especial value and I commend it.
