This is really good! wasn't expecting that..., 7 April 2007
Wow! Based on the first two UK singles (London Bridge and Glamorous) I have to say that I wasn't overly impressed with Fergie's solo work, but bought this anyway, purely based on the fact that I loved her so much with BEP. I've listened to the album a few times and I LOVE it!! It's so catchy and unique (apart from "Glamorous" which is a direct copy of Gwen Stefani's "Luxurious") Here is a review of all the tracks.
1 - Fergalicious - this is funky, fun, fast and catchy. love it!
2 - Clumsy - not as keen on this one but Fergie sounds great and, overall, I could listen to it.
3 - All That I Got (The Make-Up Song) - I love the lyrics on this one, it's kinda personal and that's always a good thing.
4 - London Bridge - if you love stuff like "Hollaback Girl" then you'll like this, it's funky and catchy, but she seems to swear for the sake of it!
5 - Pedestal - also, again, love the lyrics on this one. It kinda slags off the paparazzi, plus it's funky and catchy and her voice sounds great.
6 - Voodoo Doll - you just have to admire the creativity and the uniqueness of this. wasn't a lover of this song at first, now it's one of my faves on the album.
7 - Glamorous - really laid-back, good lyrics again. Much better than "Luxurious" in my opinion.
8 - Here I Come - favourite song on the album! really funky, plus will.i.Am has a good verse on it.
9 - Velvet - disappointing. don't like it at all. one of the only songs i skip on this album.
10 - Big Girls Don't Cry - this is fab!! really deep and emotional, and reminds people that she is a really talented vocalist.
11 - Mary Jane Shoes - not sure about this one at all. is it reggae? is it ska? is it punk? i dunno, but i don't like the end result.
12 - Losing My Ground - not bad, not phenomenal. listenable, but not one of the album's best points.
13 - Finally - love this!!! Fergie's vocals are amazing, the lyrics are fantastic, it's a great way to end the album!
Anyways, my faves are:
- Fergalicious
- London Bridge
- Pedestal
- Voodoo Doll
- Glamorous
- Here I Come
- Big Girls Don't Cry
- Finally

Brilliant Solo Debut!, 23 Sep 2006
If you are expecting a mini Black Eyed Peas album, then leave now. Yes, Fergie is perhaps the most well known of the four members, but this is not another crazy BEP joint.
Fergie, along with executive producer will.i.am, have built up a collection of modern soul, pop, hip-hop, rock and even reggae tracks. I guarantee there is a track for everyone.
For those of us who can't muster up the energy to read the whole thing, skip to the bottom for a summary :P
The CD starts off with the funky R&B Fergalicious. Besides the bland title, a fast paced dance track with clever raps from will and Ferg. It moves seamlessly into the sugar sweet Clumsy, in which Fergie explains how she is in love with a man, over an unmissable but cheeky interpolation of "The girl can't help it" by Little Richard.
Next up is the relaxing All That I Got, with strong vocals, and soft ad libs which wouldn't sound out of place on Mariah Carey's latest offering. Following that, is the popular London Bridge. Hate it or love it, you can't help yourself dancing to the beat.
Next is the sexy Pedestal, which contains an eerie line to the tune of "London Bridge is falling down...". My immediate thoughts where that this would not sound out of place in a musical, with Fergie Ferg's powerful vocals. Next is the cheeky Voodoo Doll, with brass instruments blaring out with Ferg's fast lines.
At the halfway mark, we have Glamorous, perhaps a little basic with Fergie spelling out the title for half of the song. Nonetheless, a very smooth and sweet song, with clever rhymes from Ludacris. Following that is another rap track with will.i.am. I remember pre-release that will wanted to "Use her [Fergie's] voice as an instrument", and he has done just that. Quirky ad libs, but with a reference to the dreaded "My Humps".
Next comes Velvet, a relaxing piano soul track, with Fergie really using her voice for what it was intended: sexy, smooth, efforless lines woven into a fabric of calm beats and jazzy piano chords. Consequently is the emotional Big Girls Don't Cry, where Fergie pours out her heart, and decides to get over her ex-partner. This is where Fergie's Soul persona really shows.
Coming in at the 11 mark is Mary Jane Shoes, featuring Rita Marley! A sweet reggae track with a perfect sample of No Woman No Cry, by the famous Bob Marley. This song really lets Fergie use her voice to the max, but sadly, to confess her love of a pair of shoes. Aside from that, she sings it perfectly, and breaks into a fast paced rock beat for the remainder of the song.
Nearing the end now, we come across the stirring Losing My Ground, with just audible violin chords and guitar strings. Slightly reminiscent of the Pussycat Dolls' "How Many Times, How Many Lies", with the vocals, and perhaps something from Rihanna's latest album.
Finally, Finally. Well, not quite. The end of the album, for some. A beautiful piano ballad with Ferg telling us about her childhood dreams. For those with the bonus tracks, we still have two more tracks!
Put Your Hands Up IS another fast paced, crazy dance track from the whole BEP crew. Throw ya hands up! is repeated over and over, with all members contributing bullet fast raps. Now, the best has been saved to last! The highlight of the album, which came as a surprise to me, not being a fan of rock! Fergie's attitude is portrayed in her wild vocals, and the violent bass guitars in the chorus! The final track left me wanting more, and for those patient enough, leave the track playing to find a hidden track. Nothing too interesting though, a jazzy piano song to calm us down at the end.
And there we have it people! The end has come. :( Sad as it may be, the only thing you can do now is to buy this album! Or, buy the tracks on their own online.
