Six years into Dutch Uncles’ flourishing career, the idiosyncratic art-popologists return with new album 'O Shudder' which sees them further distilling and refining their signature sound, marrying rock bombast with classical arrangements, acoustic instrumentation with smart synthetic pop.

'O Shudder' is Dutch Uncles’ most direct record to date, the sound of a ... Read more in Amazon's Dutch Uncles Store

While not as dizzyingly intricate as their follow-up, Cadenza, this debut album from Manchester's Dutch Uncles is still unutterably wonderful. I love particularly the chiming, whizzing Jetsons, but there are four other songs (Takeover, Steadycam, Face In, I Owe Someone...) as joyous as anything on Cadenza.

For the uninitiated, Dutch Uncles 'swim in the same soup' as Field Music, Everything Everything, and Wild Beasts. I can hear Sparks, Steve Reich, Television.

For the lucky few of us who already have Cadenza, this will happily plug the gap until their next album.

Get it right, Amazon 15 Nov. 2009

Fantastic band, fantastic album. An intricate, dazzling and fun effort from the UK (think Futureheads, Late of The Pier, Everything Everything).

Incidentally, I purchased the mp3 album from itunes - amazon links to a jazz album by Jay McShann. Weird. This is certainly not the first time I've seen them screw up listings.
twisted rhyhms 29 Dec. 2013

The often twisted rhythms of Dutch Uncles hark back to 1980's King Crimson, while the vocal melodies and delivery remind one of '70's Canterbury bands. It's not prog, but it does nod an acknowledging head in that vague direction. Great fun and clever instrumentation.
