The ESSENTIAL Dusty DVD!,
By
This review is from: Dusty Springfield - Once Upon A Time 1964-1969 [DVD] (DVD)
Featuring entire performances of some of Dusty's greatest material, this DVD, along with the "At The BBC" collection, is the essential purchase for any fan. The DVD features interviews with Burt Bacharach, Madeline Bell & myself, but you can watch the complete Dusty performances separately, including her entire acts from the NME Poll Winners Concerts in 1965 & 1966. Another highlight is a legendary "All Cried Out" from the Ed Sullivan Show. Much of the footage is available for the first time commercially, and the sound has been lovingly restored.
Tracks: I Only Want To be With You, Once Upon A Time, Stay Awhile, Wishin' & Hopin', I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself, My Colouring Book, All Cried Out, Dancing In The Street, Mockingbird, I Can't Hear You, In The Middle Of Nowhere, You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, Shake, Some Of Your Loving, The Look Of Love, Little By little, I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten, Son Of A Preacher Man, A Brand New Me, A House Is Not A Home.

Dusty Shines,

This review is from: Dusty Springfield - Once Upon A Time 1964-1969 [DVD] (DVD)
I agree with Simon, the sound and picture quality on this new dvd is stunning and I am delighted the sound has been fully restored on I Close My Eyes & Count To Ten as the previous dvd release(Just Dusty) features an inferior sound on that particular song.
Watching this dvd makes you realise once more just how great Dusty was/is, you can see in her eyes that she is enjoying herself especially on the NME Poll Winners Concerts. Watching Dusty so full of life and in great voice makes you miss her even more but at least she left a wonderful legacy that we can watch and listen whenever we want to. The comments from Madeline Bell, Simon Bell & Burt Bacharach are all heartfelt and it was very interesting to hear Madeline speak of Dusty in the recording studio. Another very worthy addition to our ever growing Dusty collection!

The 1960's belong to Dusty Springfield.,

This review is from: Dusty Springfield - Once Upon A Time 1964-1969 [DVD] (DVD)
'Once Upon A Time' from Reelin' In The Years Productions, takes us on the magical journey of Dusty Springfield through the sixties. As usual with this kind of DVD there are interesting comments and insights from those who worked closely with her including Madeline Bell, Burt Bacharach and Simon Bell, as well as a newly discovered 1978 interview with Dusty herself.
Dusty was the volcano just waiting to erupt, unstoppable and to be ignored only at your peril. Starting with her first solo top 5 hit "I Only Want To Be With You" (also included is the b-side "Once Upon A Time" which Dusty wrote herself), this DVD illustrates superbly, just why, she was voted both Best British Female Singer ('64/'65 and '66) and Best World Female Singer in 1965/'66 and '67, and this is to say nothing about the times she scooped second place when not placed first, not bad for someone who didn't start her solo career until late 1963. The magic of Dusty is as obvious from her debut hit twirling under the spotlight, the various television performances and NME Poll Winners Concerts, right through to her sultry sexiness later in the decade, notably on "Son Of A Preacher Man" (1968) and "The Look Of Love" (1969). But with Dusty it wasn't just about being sexy, it's was about having a unique charisma and a voice that could melt a glacier. Included on the DVD is "Mockingbird" from her debut album 'A Girl Called Dusty' and the amazing "All Cried Out" which is a bonus track from the same album. Further proof is with the inclusion of "I Can't Hear You" from her second album 'Everything's Coming Up Dusty', just what she was capable of is mind blowing, small wonder that her fans and her public just couldn't get enough of her. The 1960's was Dusty's decade and just the tip of the iceberg. This year marked the tenth anniversary of her passing and this DVD has been a long, long wait. Miss this and you will miss out on the prime decade of the world's finest female singer.
