He may have died back in 1967 but 'Woody' Guthrie and his songs still go on making an impression on others, and inspiring so many singers and songwriters. This double cd pack gives us fifty of his great tracks which have been digitally remastered. In some places the sound isn't perfect, but there isn't loads of hiss which is the biggest problem, so this is okay to put on your MP3 player and use headphones to listen to.

If you have never heard 'Woody' before then you are in for a real treat. Singing the songs of real working people, and drawing on his own experiences there are a lot of songs on here from the Depression era, as well as later. The first cd has tracks with just 'Woody' Guthrie, whereas the second cd has quite a few collaborations, with people such as 'Cisco' Houston, Sonny Terry, and the Almanac Singers. There are some tracks where perhaps the song has been cut too short, where the last note isn't shown to the full, but for the price I picked this up for, nothing too much to complain about.

If you like Folk music then you will enjoy this, and also if you are a Blues fan you should like this as well, as there are a few Blues tracks on this. All in all this is a good album for your collection.

Yap, Woody Guthrie was a major figure and I'm very pleased I bought this double CD pack, particularly since I bought it quite cheap in a shop,
for the equivalent of the price at the UK amazon (it's much more expensive on US amazon, since this is a British product)...

My single complaint here is that some of the songs end quite abruptly, as if they were trying to squeeze more songs on these discs...
So, the sophisticated listeners wouldn't go wrong if they research other compilations of this folk music legend before buying;
since I'm primarily jazz fan, with only casual interest in folk music, I'm quite pleased with this product. And I don't mind the occasional touches of the blues...

(and yes, I like Pete Seeger as well; I also like Johnny Cash)...
