Wild Boys

In the 80s Duran Duran were the most successful new romantic band of the “second British Invasion”, helped by their stylish and sexually charged videos which received heavy play on MTV.

Formed in 1978 by John Taylor (bass) and Nick Rhodes (keyboards) in Birmingham, England, their most successful line-up also included Simon Le Bon (vocals), Andy Taylor (guitar) and Roger ... Read more in Amazon's Duran Duran Store

Product Description

Product Description

DURAN DURAN Duran Duran / Rio / Seven And The Ragged Tiger (2004 UK exclusive limited edition triple CD set featuring the digitally remastered albums with each in a mini LP-style pasted card gatefold picture sleeves all housed in unique flip-top box!)

Rio: for the most part, Rio is an eerie and sumptuous record. With their raspy, arpeggio synth sounds and Simon Le Bon's uninflected vocals, the misty ballads "Lonely in Your Nightmare" and "Save a Prayer" can still pull heavily on your heartstrings. With the dance-orientated singles "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf", you lighten up a bit, but the songs are far from airy or whimsical. One anomaly in this release, though, is the inappropriate prominence of John Taylor's bass lines. In every song, it sounds as if he is mixed more in expectation of a solo than as an integral part of the rhythm section. Ignore this technical distraction, however, and you'll enjoy rediscovering this gorgeous body of water-coloured synth pop. --Beth Bessmer

Seven & the Ragged Tiger: this is artier than Duran Duran's first two releases. "The Reflex" opens with one of the best bass-fuelled intros ever, remaining more in the dance-pop arena than the rest of the album. Lyrically, the song contains one of the most memorable Duran Duran lines of all time, "Fl-Fl-Fl-Fl-Flex", which is reason enough to buy the whole stable. "Union of the Snake" is a mix of male ritual, slithering synths and big bad beats. Along with their first two albums, Seven & the Ragged Tiger is necessary to effectively complete the early Duran Duran experience. Interesting haircuts remain optional. --Steve Gdula

These 3 CDs have been released for over 20 years but they sound like songs from yesterday.
From "Girls On Film" to "The Reflex", the songs are loaded with energy and vitality.
The mini sleeve box set is very neat, similar to that of the Singles 81-85 Box Set released earlier in late 2003.
In summary, a very nice addition to my Duran Duran collections.

EMI squeeze a few more pennies out of their former employees, yes no doubt cashing in on the comeback they weren't interested in!
At least the track listing for the first album is as per the original, unlike when it was first released on CD.
Great music, of course, and a must buy if you don't already have these albums.

As the other reviewers have said, the music is great and it's great that the first album has it's original track listing restored, but are these REALLY Mini Sleeves?
Yes, they are made of cardboard, bjut they are not reproductions of the original album packaging, as Mini Sleeved LP's are. Each album is housed in a gatefold cardboard sleeve which is open each end, one end to hold the CD, the other for the booklet. Only Rio has an inner sleeve for the CD. The booklets are very well done, containing all the lyrics.
If you are a collector of Mini Sleeved CD's, this collection is not for you. But if you want good packaging surrounding pure Eighties pop and, in one case, videos, buy away!!!

My reason for giving this collection of albums such a high rating is very much the energy and pure music pleasure that they exude.
What annoys me and if possible I would give a rating of 1 to, is that these albums were released last year in updated sleeves and digitally re-mastered.
I'm delighted that Duran are back to their orginal greatness, but for the music company to release and then re-release the same albums makes me wonder whether this is all just a money-making scam

(Duran Duran 1st 3 cd box set) Great if you don't have them already. 1 Feb. 2013

I had "greatest" & wanted to expand on that so when I found this package I ordered it. The version I got contains the remastered cds in Jewel Cases (some editions may be in digi-packs or mini lp sleeves). For me this was ideal but if you're a long time fan you probably have these already & there's nothing new here.

three classic pop rockers but this isn't a deal. 27 Nov. 2011
By Michael Dobey - Published on
Format: Audio CD
these three are classic cd's put into a boxset. BUT you get not a extra track. This set should be avoided and the three discs bought seperately in the remaster versions. Buy duran duran, the music is five star, this boxset is lame though as the one star reviewer stated.
Re-living my Duranie days 1 April 2011

Very happy with this! It arrived quickly and in near-perfect condition, save for the fact that the Rio cd was the only one with a sleeve on [within its case]. I think, given the overall perfect condition of this product, that it was probably purchased that way. Rio gives me a hard time when it's loading, but it may be because it is an enhanced cd, the content of which I cannot see on my laptop, but I may on my desktop. The sound is perfection; crisp and clear as if it was 1982 and 1983, but better because I had tapes at that time! I'm a faithful Duranie (since 1982) and I'm SUPER-satisfied with this purchase, especially the price! Thank you! I didn't realize the white album would be the original, not the re-released one with Is There Something I Should Know on it, but, as a true Duranie, I should have noticed that the photo on the cover could have told me that! Seller sent well-cared-for product in very good, protective packaging. Again, great price. Buy from this seller!!!
This box set contains the best Duran Duran albums IMHO 29 April 2015
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Audio CD
This box set contains the best Duran Duran albums IMHO. If you can get the limited edition, the miniature paper sleeve covers were delicately printed. Rio is an enhanced CD, but other than that this set includes only tracks on the original albums - no demo tracks, B-sides or extended versions, etc. That said, the remastering has better dynamic range than most of the 2013 remastered versions (except Rio).
I really enjoy the music. Even thought there are other Duran Duran sets available, I think this one is a keeper.

3 albums that span continents of style... A++ 10 Oct. 2004
By D.Meinerz - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Who is this goof rohitrao who only wants to commandeer this space to praise druggie droning music and diss this band in a totally different genre? Not cool or fair, sir. And recognize that Gilmore played with these lads (as Arcadia) for an appreciative reason...

Duran Duran's first three albums cover more ground than Pink Floyd ever WILL! PinkF wrote a few Excellent #'s but will always stay stuck in their rut. DD have covered more ground in their careers, much less these 3 albums, than most bands EVER will.. try to deny that, goofus! These 3 DD albums tested the boundaries of sound, and where a band could go, while striking a chord with the world consciousness(Pink Floyd were never compared to the Beatles..).

The first CD shows a band jumping up to proclaim itself with exceptional zeal, the second was perhaps their masterpiece in bravado, excitement and breadth, and the 3rd perhaps suffers from overproduction and silly topics. Personally though, I enjoyed the ambiguous lyrics as I always appreciate mystery and impressionism. Stretch your audiences imagination, you'll both grow from the experience. And, to top things off, the last two songs on Seven and the Ragged Tiger (Tiger Tiger and Seventh Stranger) encompass as much atmosphere and intrigue as a whole Pink Floyd excursion, in 1/6 of the time; and THAT is much more palatable and effective than hours and hours in a PF daze.

5 stars easily, as a collection.
