4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Item - Limited Capacity 17 Nov 2011
By Robert Groom TOP 100 REVIEWER
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Useful little charger which allows you to charge up to two USB devices simultaneously (via two separate USB sockets on its top) - either from the internal battery or via the mains while the internal battery is recharging. I use it to charge my iPod Touch and iPhone together. The wall plug can be disconnected and it's quite pocketable in size. About the size of a packet of cigarettes. It also has a button on the front to indicate charge from 1-3 bars.

My criticism? At 1,800mAh capacity however, I have to say that it falls somewhat short of what should be possible for a unit this size - my PowerMonkey is rather smaller, and has 2,200mAh capacity. However, the PowerMonkey will only charge one item at a time, and it also requires a separate charge adapter which the Duracell charger does not - so horses for courses.

Don't expect it to charge your iPhone from flat to 100%, but it will probably extend its battery life by 50% when you need it in an emergency - which is what most people need.

Handy item - recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it should, if you need it 17 Nov 2011

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is simply a rechargeable spare battery, with two USB connectors. A set of three LEDs on the front make its current charge clear (when being used), and the removable plug means it's fairly slim and light.

Although it's quite quick to charge, the most important feature is that it retains its charge for several weeks: this means you don't have to remember to charge it the day before you need it.

The only real question is whether you'll be in a position to need it. It gives around five hours of charging - so it's useful for a weekend away from power sources, but not much good if you're away for much longer. We found it very helpful when travelling on a long bus/coach journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best utility items for years 22 Oct 2011
By Aremess TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I've used this (Duracell 5 Hour Mobile Phone and MP3 Portable USB Charger) on my Blackberry 9650 Bold and can only say WOW! This, I'm going to get a lot of use out of.

An initial charge of the unit for 5 hours, then you're ready to go. A 55% depleted Blackberry battery was recharged in 2 hours and that not only left approximately half of the charger's power it enabled me to have a considerable increase in standby/talk time. Note that you can also charge your phone whilst the charger is still connected to the mains which means you don't have to carry your phone supplied charger with you, simply charge your phone in the normal way, over night (the USB charger switches off when the phone battery is fully charged) then go in to work the next day with a fully charged phone AND have the USB charger ALSo fully charged.

How the charger will be after a few uses (normally it take a few re-charges for these Ion type batteries to operate fully), I don't know. I also don't know if the USB charger battery will last long (although other similar batteries I've had last a long time), my first impressions of this item are very high.

Whilst this is a little on the expensive side, I think this will be a useful item to many smart phone (especially Blackberry) users and will recommend it highly (it works also with your iPhone/iPad, just use your own Apple supplied USB lead). Keep a fully charged one in your car/briefcase/handbag and you can guarantee you'll never be saying to a potential client that you'll have to ring them back because your battery's dying.

My only negative comment is that I can only give it 5 stars, I wish I could exceed this - This is one of the first utility items I've received for years that not only "does-what-it-says-on-the-can" it exceeds my expectations. Well done Duracell - this is a truly a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Portable Charger! 26 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase
This portable charger fits perfectly for my needs as I occasionally run low in battery and have no charger or wall socket to use. This portable charger is great if you don't want to carry a big charger with you. I also think it is amazing value (I got mine from Wilkinsons for £19.99) and I don't regret my purchase and I highly recommend this product. I wonder why Amazon have priced it at twice the price of Wilkinsons...

.. and not in a good way. Too big. I bought this before buying the 3 hour version - see my other review. This is simply too big to carry as a safety net. If you don't mind the size/weight go for it but if like me you have a tablet, laptop and papers in your rucksack already this just pushes the load over the top in my opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent when on the move 14 Dec 2011
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The portable phone (or USB) charger seems to be a fairly new innovation, the premise being that it's something that you can use to charge up your phone, Kindle or MP3 player when the battery's running low, and you're not near a power socket. I've had this for a few weeks, and it's already proved to be invaluable, notably on a long train journey where my carriage didn't have plug sockets as normal. The charger roughly charged my iPhone to about 60% in a very short time, and thus meant that I could keep myself entertained during my much-delayed jouney.

So, the plus side - can extend battery life for your phone or USB device simply and quickly. The down side - well, firstly it's rather heavy, but I suppose that's to be expected for it to have a battery that will retain and dispense a fair amount of charge. The other main down side is simply one's memory - it's no good if you a) don't have it with you, or b) have forgotten to charge the charger. But, assuming you're organised enough to remember to do this, then it's a great buy.
