Pleasantly surprised, 3 Oct 2003

This review is from: Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Entry Pack (Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures) (Misc. Supplies)
After reading some of the reviews and comments on the web regarding the D&D Miniatures, i wasn't sure what to expect.
However, of the 16 mini's that come in the Entry Pack, most were pretty good. Here's what i got;
Cleric of Gruumsh
Krusk, Half-Orc Barbarian
Troglodyte Zombie
Evoker's Apprentice
Jozan, Cleric of Pelor
Gnoll
Ghoul
Dwarf Axefighter
Elf Archer
Hell Hound
Wolf
Hyena
Skeleton
Human Commoner
Orc Warrior
Kobold Warrior
The paint jobs aren't bad, especially for something mass produced (the Cleric of Gruumsh is the best, as you would expect from one of the Rare mini's). A couple of the mini's appear too be staggering like drunks on their bases but i understand this can be rectified easily. Some reviews have mentioned warped bases but mine are fine
Each mini comes with a stat card detailing both D&D stats and stats for the Skirmish game, which appears to be the primary purpose of the minis. These would have looked much better if they had been in colour, but that might have made them more expensive.
The rest of the box contains a 32"x22" battlemat w/area effect templates on the reverse, 8 terrain tiles (which are pretty good), damage counters, a d20 and a 40-page rulebook for the Skirmish game, oh and a checklist for the 80 mini's in the Harbinger expansion set.
All in all the D&D mini's aren't as bad as some make out to be, and i think that i will almost certainly be buying some expansion packs to start building a collection, or looking to ebay to get the mini's i really want like the Umber Hulk, Large Fire Elemental and the Mind Flayer (all rare's by the way)
If you already have a large mini's collection then these mini's perhaps aren't for you. If you haven't then these are a good and relatively cheap way to do so, and without the time consuming painting!

Enjoyable? - DEFINATELY, 16 Mar 2004
This review is from: Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Entry Pack (Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures) (Misc. Supplies)
Well, it has arrived. I am new to miniatures and thought this and thought this a good way to get started. I firstly brought the D&D game from Parker and this began my hobby. This pack is EXCELLENT. You get 16 figures. Mine were:
Large Earth Elemental
Half-orc assassin
Ember, Human Monk
Drow Archer
Wolf
Crested Felldrake
Orc Archer
Tordek, Dwarf Fighter
Hyena
Dwarf Axefighter
Human Commoner
Gnome Recruit
Wolf Skeleton
Ghoul
Orc Warrior
Skeleton
I was a bit annoyed to find that a few of the figures were stood on their bases like The Leaning Tower of Pisa. But I'm sure I can rectify that problem.
You also got basic rules and rules on how to play a skirmish game - so you don't need to buy the 3 core rulebooks (YET).
You get a 32" by 22" playmat and terrain cards to battle on, as well as a few damage counters.
All in all, a top buy for a low price

Also pleasantly suprised, 31 Jan 2004
This review is from: Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Entry Pack (Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures) (Misc. Supplies)
After reading the review 'Pleasantly Suprised' which is wholly accurate I purchased this pack.
I'll not list the extras as they are listed in other reviews but the miniatures I received are :
Cleric of Order
Dwarf Axefighter
Large Earth Elemental
Crested Felldrake
Wood Elf Skirmisher
Goblin Sneak
Hell Hound
Human Thug
Kobold Warrior
Zombie
Ghoul
Half-Orc Assassin
Human Bandit
Kuo-Toa
Orc Archer
Orc Warrior
They are top quality pieces in design and paintwork.
In future I think I'd go for 2 Harbinger expansion packs for the same price as one entry pack as you also get 16 miniatures but with 2 rare pieces which makes up for no extras.
