Product Description

Product Description

In many ways Dungeon! is similar to Dungeons & Dragons, although much simplified and transformed into a board game. Players explore a dungeon that is divided into levels of increasing difficulty, fighting monsters for valuable treasure. As players venture deeper into the dungeon, the monsters become more difficult and the treasure more valuable. Several character classes each have slightly different fighting abilities – most notably the wizard, who can cast spells. Combat is simulated using dice; players roll the dice to attack a monster, and if unsuccessful, the dice are rolled to determine the effect of the monster's counter-attack. The winner is the first player to bring a certain amount of treasure back to the Dungeon's entrance.

1 x Rulebook
1 x Game Board

5.0 out of 5 stars Dungeon Board game 26 Oct 2012
Format:Toy|Verified Purchase
This is a basic and simple beautiful game without lots and lots of rules. Go through a dungeon, kill monsters(with weapons or magic), get treasure to win. This is great for us sentimental rpg players, and a great introduction for players new to D&D.
This is the newest version of an old board game they have brought out before. I have two different older copies of this game and it keeps improving each time except for maybe one decision they made this time. In the last version it was a huge box with irrelevant art work on the front of heroes on horse back(there is no horses in the game and you are in a Dungeon)but it had basic one colour plastic figures. This game is a smaller box(but board is folded more so not smaller as such)but doesnt have plastic but card figures but this may be to keep the games price down as this is the cheapest vesion I have found. The box's feel and artwork is beautiful the contents board, card and character artwork is beautiful and very high quality. I would advise you to use figures from another similar game or buy figures instead of the card ones, but not until you see the size of the rooms and the board. The rules and board are so simple and well planned out and organised the board has some basic reminder information on the side the rules are laid out beautifully and clearly without overloading you with information. I highly recommend it for collectors and for the price of 12.00

Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Here is a game that has been around since the 1970s and is still fun for kids today

Your character explores dungeons on the board (so you know where you are going) and pretty much move to a space, fight the monster, collect the treasure. It works really well for many kids and is easily grasped by those from about 5y.o. - for the money it really is a great game to play. There are different types of character and different approaches to trying to win, so it stays fresh for a while (though an adult player might get frustrated at the inconsistencies in monster strengths at the different levels). The Board is nice, with some subtlety to the routes through. If the flimsy card player counters bother you then it is a nice excuse to buy some little miniatures. If the rules cause you to get stuck/frustrated (it happens sometimes) then house rule variants are common - google 'BGG Dungeon'

So why 4 stars? Well even at the low price the components are a bit cheap (be aware Amazon have listed Dungeon! in 2 places for some reason, so check to see if the other listing is cheaper). Also the game really isn't going to hold the attention of teens and adults - but if all you are after is a gateway game for kids to grow into "proper" Role Playing and Board games this is a worthy place to start

5.0 out of 5 stars We are hooked 23 Dec 2013

Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Having never played any Dungeons and Dragons type games before I did wonder whether or not I'd get into this and whether it would hold the attention of my 10 year old son who just won't stop playing Minecraft. Well after just one session we were both hooked. Not only that but he taught his sister to play the next day instead of the usual petty arguments coming from playing the Xbox. It's very simple to pick up and you do get a strange sense of adventure from what is such a simple concept. Start at the middle of a dungeon. Visit rooms to battle monsters. Win gold for each battle won. Collect 10,000 coins and race back to the center before your fellow adventurers do to pick up the win. In an age of video games and being glued to an ipod or pad this won our family over in 30 minutes. My only complaint would be the character pieces being made of cardboard. They tend to come off their stands as you move but within minutes we'd easily swapped them over for GoGos, Trash Pack or Lego mini figures to take their place. If you own any adventuring board game (D&D) then you'll have pieces to use instead. All in all I thought it was great value for money and a welcome addition to a family night in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past! 9 July 2014
Format:Game|Verified Purchase
A rejigged blast from the past role playing boardgame (originally launched back in the day). You play a wizard, warrior, rogue or cleric exploring a dungeon, fighting monsters and collecting loot. The first one back to the board's centre with a set amount of loot is the winner.
The board and cards are colourful, the rules simple. It is a good introduction game for younger players who might be interested in D&D and fantasy games. Good value for the price.
My only gripes were that the character counters would have been nicer as proper figures, not cardboard standups. Once you have the treasure, there is nothing to really stop you getting toward the middle of the board and victory and though you are competeing with other players you cant really do anything to stymie them. The Cleric seems to have a hard time against basic monsters. We had an embarrassing combat with a zombie (which traditionally should be easy for a cleric to trounce) where the difficulty seemed awefully high for, and he got his butt kicked many times. I think some minor tweaking of the difficulty ratings might be useful in future editions. Otherwise a fun time had by all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely box art, not so great in play.
This dungeon-crawling game has two problems - one is that the monsters are totally static, just sitting in their rooms. This means there is little sense of threat. Read more
