5.0 out of 5 stars Big Improvement 21 May 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is a big improvement on the original dungeon siege - not as linear and the graphics are amazing.
Although it doesn't specify on the blurb before you buy, this does include the expansion game Broken World. The game itself comes in a handy, strong plastic case where all CDs are held separately so that you don't need to pull all of them out to find the one you want. It contains a nice little CD of extras too.
As regards the game itself, Dungeon siege does have one little niggle - all the monsters respawn when you continue after exiting, but that can be helpful for gaining extra experience if you are struggling against some monsters. This doesn't seem to apply to Broken World though - am half way through the expansion now. Also Broken World has new spells, new powers and new classes. You can also play as a dwarf, which was missing from the original Dungeon Siege II. When you start Broken World, you can import your character and allies from Dungeon Siege II or start with a fresh character. I love this game and will play it many times - once you complete the mercenary level, you can replay as a veteran, etc and if you complete the main quests, you can go back and finish the secondary quests if you want. Great game all round!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad.. 17 Jun 2007
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game is great escapist fun. It's not too difficult, the environments are pretty and the play is straightforward. There is a lot to see and some thought has gone into the backgrounds. My one complaint is I hate having weapons and armour on screen I can't take! If a crossbow is lying on a table in a camp why can't I take it? If I can't- why put it there? That aside the only failure in this game is that you can't be a thief type character.. You are either a warrior, archer or spell chucker and that's it- just like DS part 1. But- it is a nice change from Oblivion and Morrowind and it's a lot more involving than Neverwinter Nights 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Diablo, nor Baldur's Gate 25 Oct 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Let's start by saying that I HATE Diablo 2, but I loved Dungeon Siege 2, so you can tell that the 2 games really are very different. DS2 is so much better than DS1, so if you liked DS1 it's pretty sure that you gonna also like DS2. Yes, there is still lots of hack and slash, but less than DS1 and far less than Diablo 2. The story is much, much richer than DS1, the music is wonderful, the graphics are just as good as one can expect from a modern RPG (which means lots of details, effects, shades and whatever the game developers can think of so that to take our graphic cards to the limits; I'm not always fond of this stuff so I reduced some of the graphic details, although my system could handle them pretty well).

But the gameplay is the best part of the game. Lots of quests organized in your journal (you can even know how many more quests, optional and not, remain until you finish the game), easter eggs, books and history to read and other very cool stuff that make the game far more different than the average action rpg. It's just the kind of RPG I like to play, not too action nor too story-oriented. DS2 has both at equal amounts.

Concerning the expansion pack that comes together with the box, is not that great as the original game, but definitely not bad. So, if I would rate the original game with 5 stars, and the expansion with 4 stars and keeping in mind that I have found the whole package is currently being sold for 10-15 euros, yes, it's an absolute must buy and the purchase deserves the 5 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER BOTCHED SEQUEL... 29 Jan 2008
By NeuroSplicer TOP 100 REVIEWER
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
When the original game is a groundbreaking masterpiece, its sequel rarely lives up to the unavoidable hype. There are notable exceptions of course (BALDUR's GATE II and MAX PAYNE II spring to mind). However, NEVER had I been so DISAPPOINTED with a sequel more than DUNGEON SIEGE II!
Following the innovative and brilliant original DS, the anticipation was so great that minor flaws would be forgiven. With DS2, though, it was one big blunder after another.

Contrary to the original DS (for which one had to physically tear himself from the computer screen) this one is a boring chore. Running back and forth to the base camp to barter equipement is a tedious procedure with all the fun sucked out of it. Moreover, no matter how much you improve your character (either leveling up or equipment-wise), your enemies simply match your abilities (or resort to crowding) resulting in NO CHANGE in the gameplay. I am not talking new enemies, but aren't higher leveled characters supposed to easily wipe out enemies encountered many hours before? This way, the whole game is nothing but a even-leveled blandness.

On a similar note: why was it necessary for **minor** enemies to have so much life? I was bored out of my skin hacking and slashing FOREVER! Increase the damage they can cause and keep it interesting - do not give them a longer life only to artificially increase the game's duration!
Oh, and the enchanting system was a joke - since the items found were much better than anything one could pay to have forged.

Graphically, DS2 is not even one step higher than the original DS. Shadows and particles may have increased, but characters (and equipment) have not. As a result, the heat of the battle (even on high-end systems) will find you in the midst of a disorienting...blur.
