I am surprised at the other reviewer, who i suspect has not read the book, comments and would take issue with them. This is not a remake of the Lynch film it is a film about the book written by Frank Herbert and as such faithfully follows it. Lynch who admits to never reading Sci Fi made many changes from the book that seriously weakened the plot line and the point.
This version also has the advantage of a longer time, being a mini series, to develop the plot and the characters and while it may not have had the same budget for effects it certainly develops the characters more. If you are a fan of the book then get this version if you are a fan of David Lynch get the film.

Bought this DVD thinking it was the full series. It isn't. Just one disc. Only half the series. Sending it straight back for a refund. Very disappointing.
