I don't normally use cake mixes preferring to bake from scratch but I'd heard such horror stories about home-made red velvet cakes that when I decided to do one for Valentines day I purchased this mix. I was really rather dubious that it would match the picture on the front of the packet or even taste pleasant. That said I was utterly amazed, it rose perfectly and did indeed look like the picture on the carton (excluding my poor frosting skills). It also tasted rich and velvety and I will buy it again. My husband has said it's the best cake he's ever tasted, so maybe I won't bother baking from scratch for him again!

I have always wanted to try red velvet cake, but it's more of an American recipe than an English one. So when I saw I could order this through Amazon I was delighted, a chance to try a more or less foolproof version before baking my own from scratch.
Having researched recipes myself I was under the impression this was a chocolate cake with red colouring. However the taste is not that of a chocolate cake, although it is quite delicious, extremely moist and goes very well with the Duncan Hines Classic vanilla frosting.
The retailer for this product shipped it in excellent time. My only niggle is as this food is an import I had to convert the additional ingredient volumes from 'cups', which left a small margin for error. However as the cake mix is just heavier than that of the competitor brand 'Betty Crocker' it was reassuring to gage that the converted volumes of water and oil were relative when comparing.
Everyone who has tried this cake has enjoyed it. For anyone looking to experience red velvet but not really into baking I would heartily recommend it.

I bake and decorate professional cakes but had never tried the red velvet recipe until it was requested by a client! Not having enough time to try out the recipe from scratch, i ordered a couple of this mix and was quite impressed. it was very easy to mix and came out quite nice although it was just a tiny bit not as moist as i would have imagined. It was however I great hit with my clients and they have continued to order red velvet cakes from me ever since!!!!!

Wanna-be Red Velvet Cake
If you want a fast, moist cake this is ok.

superb red velvet for beginer
delicious & moist red velvet cake.easy to use but really need to follow the instruction to get irresistible taste.i make it for my party and get lot's of compliment with it
