Product Description

Product Description

Dumpling wishes she was long and sausage-shaped like her two brothers and other dachshunds, instead of being short and stumpy. One day she goes to the woods and meets a witch's cat who grants Dumpling her wish, but the spell goes wrong and Dumpling gets longer and longer! She's very happy to return to her own shape again.

About the Author

Dick King-Smith served in the Grenadier Guards during the Second World War, and afterwards spent twenty years as a farmer in Gloucestershire, the county of his birth. Many of his stories are inspired by his farming experiences. Later he taught at a village primary school. His first book, The Fox Busters, was published in 1978. He wrote a great number of children's books, including The Sheep-Pig (winner of the Guardian Award and filmed as Babe), Harry's Mad, Noah's Brother, The Hodgeheg, Martin's Mice, Ace, The Cuckoo Child and Harriet's Hare (winner of the Children's Book Award in 1995). At the British Book Awards in 1991 he was voted Children's Author of the Year. In 2009 he was made OBE for services to children's literature. Dick King-Smith died in 2011 at the age of eighty-eight.

Short old Dumpling, or is she? Can't tell you the whole story, it's quite long!

It all happened in a beautiful garden and a spooky spook forest.

Dumpling bumps into a mysterious cat, a black cat who seems to be a witches cat. He grants Dumpling a wish, which turns out to be a long nightmare!

My favourite bit is when Dumpling sneaks through a hole, just to have a walk.

At the end, Dumpling comes back short as ever. It was only a short walk, if you know what I mean!

By Mahir Taher
Dumpling is the main character and she wants to be tremendously long like her brothers Joker and Thinker. Thinker likes to think more than joke around and Joker likes to joke around more than to think.

It is set in a calm country garden and a creepy forest with a witch's cat.

Dumpling tries to get long. She meets a mysterious black cat in the woods. The cat granted her a wish to be long, but it went terribly wrong. Can Dumpling every get short again .........

My favourite part in the story is when she goes round the tree and meets her tail.

Dumpling gets short again, but what will happen after? You will have to find out ......

The main characters are Jocker, Thinker and dumpling.

Dumpling grows long and wants to get short again and likes how she is short.

My favourite parties in the middle.
