Fun:
I really wanted to like this game. I can't stress that enough. Plus seeing as my wife bought this for me - I didn't want to seem ungrateful. I've played every Duke game as they were released and back in the day, they were awesome - they were crude and just playable entertainment. This game hits the crude mark, but fails in every other aspect.

I made the mistake of not heeding the other amazon reviews (which is pretty much my barometer on any purchase these days). I saw 'Don't Do it', 'Long load times', 'Fail to the King' and you know what, I ignored them. Why? Well because I'm a doof.

I gave this game a good chance to win me over. But I slowly realised, the prospect of poorly sprited girls throwing innuendoes at me - just doesn't cut it any more. I completely get that this game is trying to continue doing what it did in the hey-day, but what I want from a game has changed greatly since I was a teenager. I want an exciting storyline, I want weapons that are accurate and fun to use, I want to crouch behind cover dammit. Duke - you've not delivered.

So for me, in the later-twenties demographic, the humour is to much hormone-driven teenage boy to be anyway near tongue in cheek. I get that it's playing on the fact that Duke is supposedly a sex driven ego maniac - but the jokes and references are just poor and unfunny. On the flip side, those hormone driven teenage lads who've so far existed on gaming diets of the highest quality are no doubt picking this up and thinking - what an abysmal game.

I played for about 7 hours before I admitted defeat and wanted to scratch my eyes out. If you're desperate to play this please wait until it's come down in price, rent it or - if you really want the essence of the game - just google 'boobies'.

Fun:
Like some others have mentioned, I really don't get why this game has got slated so badly. After just completing the game I can say that it is quite long, has varied levels and some rather interesting gameplay which adds things that other games don't. For instance getting shrunk down and making your way along table tops and through vents while shooting attacking rats. No other game offers this sort of FUN which is what duke nukem is about! fun and good old gaming where you can have FUN without worrying about a perfect headshot or whatever. I thought I'd hate it, I hated the demo, and I hated the vulgarity of it, however playing the game the vulgarity isn't all that bad and it reminds you what fun you had playing duke nukem.

Sure it's been 12 years and the game seems to think it was a shining success and it isn't.. it could of and should of been a lot better. However what has been created is a good fun game with varied gameplay which always keeps you playing and having fun.

Can be bought very cheap now and it is an absolute bargain. Especially since I got it for under £5!

Great fun 14 Dec 2011

Fun:
I honestly don't get why this game has so many bad reviews iam really enjoying it. I have been playing it for roughly 8 hours, and so far I have had the most fun this year playing a video game, and isnt that the reason we play games....to be entertained?
I went into this thinking it was going to be awful due to reviews I had read, but it was cheap and I remember playing Duke Nukem 64 (which was good fun) so I decided to take a gamble.
I' am glad I did, iall say now I was enjoying it, but then the game clicked and I loved it (roughly about an hour in), I did notice the flaws initially, screen tearing, average graphics, but I either dont notice them any more as iam use to them or they go during thee course of the campaign.
The graphics arn't amazing but there definately not pants like some people are saying, to say there PS2/original XBOX graphics is a lie (iam playing this 1080P, so can't comment on people who are playing it scart).
Yes the aiming is far to sensitive for my liking, but you can change that in the options menu, once I done that I found it fine.
Some people are complaining about the puzzles, now I got to admit I loved them. Its a refreshing change from the modern brainless shooters (COD games esp), for the record I do actually like COD games, especially modern warfare 2, but DNF has so much more going for it.
Its funny, random and difficuilt in places.
You even have boss battles again, which for me is awsome.
The main problem people have is the loading times when you die, and yes iam afraid its true and is the main reason for me not giving it 5 stars. It can be infuriating waiting up to a minute for it to load.
The pluses outway the minuses though.
Anyway grab a copy, and enjoy yourself. Iam sure you will be plesantly suprised, I know I was.

Not an ode to old school gaming, just a mess.
