3.0 out of 5 stars 3 Stars for the King ... Baby! 5 July 2011

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I had this on pre-order, so looking forward to a new Duke game; if "new" is the right word, perhaps "finished" would be better considering its development time. Having just completed the game on my PS3 (I have the Balls Of Steel edition for the PC) it was enjoyable in parts, frustrating in others. Many people have complained about the poor graphics, which i found to be OK, much more of an issue was the load times and playability. Often levels were very linear, and very stop/start - advance a bit/stop and kill aliens/advance a bit/stop and kill aliens - with none of the free flowing expanse of the original Duke Nukem levels. The game has incorporated an another aspect though, mainly from the likes of Half Life 2, where Duke has to solve a number of physical puzzles in order to progress, and also there is a lot of driving in various vehicles, which were in fact probably the best parts of the game. A lot of the time though, you seem to get killed quickly in new areas (on harder game settings, I imagine it would be a nightmare) and then have to wait 30secs for re-loading, which was the most annoying aspect, really broke the fluidity of the game. Duke has his usual aresnal of weapons, however, the limiting of carrying two only, and the low ammo capabilities kinda counted against it. Duke is also armed with his arsenal of one liners and quips, but considering how long the game took, the quips are a bit stale and rather lame. Needed a bit more work.

Duke's health takes the form of an Ego bar, which is really like a regenerative shield. Duke can interact with things around him, which will increase his Ego store, but there seems to be some levels with quite a few things to interact with, others with nothing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game. 6 Aug 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game took far too much flak for what it did, when if you look closely enough and pay attention to the history of the game, it did everything it should have. I heard reviews complaining about some of the textures and loading times, but they were clearly reviewing the console versions as on a PC the load times were fast and the texturing work was nice, people need to pay more attention to the limitations of what they are looking at, a console has a much lower file size budget because of the methods of use, a PC can take as much as you throw into it so long as the user gives it the space to do so.

In all, the game was great, it keeps you going right to the end and the things duke says are a laugh to listen out for.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not As good 25 Mar 2014

I was hoping that the critics were wrong but....It wasn't as good as I hoped. It's not a modern fps,not even a decent old school one.Everytime you get in the right mood it brings you a stage with no or little shooting and just ruins everything. At list the price now is right.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little game on its own 10 Oct 2013

Since this game has gone through "videogame development hell" and took, if you'll excuse the pun, forever to come out, a lot of people had build up insanely high expectations for this videogame. And if you fall into that category, it probably won't be able to deliver. The game has some cool features and built-in minigames, but some parts of the game are already dated due to the long development time. However, if you go into this game without any real expectations of it being some massive AAA title and what it should be like, then it's actually a really enjoyable, if short, experience. Unfortunately, due to the incredibly scripted nature of the game, there's very little in the way of replayability, which further harms the longevity of the title. You can probably see it all in a good 10 or so hours. But it can be a fun 10 hours if you let yourself enjoy the good things instead of being focused on its shortcomings.

5.0 out of 5 stars You don't buy it for the game... 29 May 2013
Verified Purchase
This is something you buy to get the awesome collectibles and they are well worth the price i paid (~200 SEK with shipping).

I did imagine the bust to be a bit bigger but atleast it seems pretty sturdy and not too flimsy. The poker chips are so-so because the print on mine is a bit off center.

Other than that everything is excellent. Except the game itself that is but we all know that's a different story...

3.0 out of 5 stars DNF 2 May 2013

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Relatively decent game was it worth the 12 years? No but that doesn't mean it's not fun. There are some flaws of course: two weapons limit, rechargeable health etc. In places the design is weak and rushed but it's a decent shooter. A Duke game in a more modernised environment. I think a lot of reviews were a little to harsh and I enjoyed the interactivity personally, the level variation is nice too but the Hive level is a certain no, no. Product arrived a day early and overall I am happy. If this game was made within three years then I think the majority of reviews would rate it higher I enjoyed this more than Postal 2 and that's saying something.
