Product Description

This book is a celebration of the dugouts that grace the pitches of football's Non League clubs. The variety of styles and constructions demonstrate the social and geographical backdrop that the games are played under - as well as the sheer absurdities and subtleties that occur at the bottom of the football pyramid. This humorous, yet in-depth collection of photos takes a look at the quirky side of football, where teams play to small crowds on pitches that range from picturesque to downtrodden. Top clubs may have their ergonomically designed seats and heated dugouts, but at the other end of the game the managers and substitutes talk tactics and shelter under portable huts, leaky roofs and crumbling walls - showing the true spirit of our glorious national game. Dugouts contains more information than you ever realised there was to know about Non League dugouts. Simply, this is a must-have buy for football fans across the leagues.

By Scottish Dave VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
This is a small colourful history of the English football dugout. After a short foreword by Alan Curbishley we are given a history of the dugout in Britain (the first British dugout was at Aberdeen's Pittodrie in the 1920s).

The rest of the book is devoted to 70 odd pictures of English/Welsh non-league football dugouts. The best ones are of course the worst ones! These are dugouts composed of a few bits of metal or wood thrown together.

This is a fun book to flick through. Not essential reading by any means but a pleasant way to pass half and hour. Shame the book was restricted to only English (with the odd Welsh) dugouts - there are no Scottish ones included (other than the original Pittodrie one at the beginning).

7/10.

Strangely intriguing 18 Nov 2011
Format:Hardcover
This book really shouldnt work but one cannot help indulging in curiosity and taking a read. Once past the introduction, it is almost impossible to put down as one flicks through searching to see if there are any dugouts featured at nearby clubs. An amusing book, one to browse through during a spare five minutes.
