5.0 out of 5 stars WW2 German Fighter pilots story. 9 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Surprised that I actually bought and read it. Very well written and a reader can then sense that none of the Luftwaffe fighter pilots were Nazi's. Germans, yes, but they had the same respect for our RAF crews as they had themselves. Once I got into it, I read the book at every possible spare moment until I had finished it. Will read it again before this year's end.

this is the story of German Night Fighter Pilot that was originally published in his own language, and has been translated into English back in the 70,s, he does not glorify war under any circumstances, Peter

5.0 out of 5 stars Memoir of a German night fighter pilot. 26 April 2004
By K Scheffler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
When Britain launched its devestating night bombardment campaign against Fortress Europa, the Luftwaffe's Nachtjager squadrons rose to the challenge. Wilhelm Johnen was a Nachtjager from nearly the beginning, and was stationed first in western Europe and then later in the Balkans; he flew Me. 110s for the entirety of his service, and recorded close to 20 kills. His account provides us with a rare glimpse into this aspect of the European air war from the German perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars The other side of the fence 19 Mar 2013
By L. T. Adair - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A really interesting, insightful and honest account of one NiFis war experience. Good reading but hard to take at times as Johnen flew on the other side of the fence to my father. In fact, it was his colleague, Launer, who shot my father down. Highly recommended for those of us interested in the Luftwaffe flyers as well as our own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Air War Biography Through German Eyes 4 Sep 2009
By Kit Wilson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Written just as the Second World War ended, his account is fresh and vivid, never dull. Compelling saga of Germany's
night fighters who managed to defend their country with little to no radar or ground control communications.
Must reading for aircraft and air war enthusiasts!
