5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Book, 12 Jun 2004
By
Laura Campbell (Nottingham, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dudley Moore: An Intimate Portrait (Hardcover)
This book about Dudley Moore concentrates on the last fifteen years of his life but also gives the reader a complete perspective of his life and career. I found myself constantly surprised by how this book could be funny, touching, sad and brilliant--all at the same time. Whilst we understand his struggles, the author--his close friend--never encourages us to feel sorry for Dudley. Rather, we understand him and love him even more than we did before. I laughed, I cried, and I could not put this book down until I had finished reading it. It is among the best books I have ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant and Inspiring Book, 12 Jun 2004

This review is from: Dudley Moore: An Intimate Portrait (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book. The author provides amazing insight into the character and personality of Dudley Moore, and allows the reader to understand what his life was like during the last few years, when his public had no idea what was really happening to him.
It is also a powerful and touching story of England's beloved Dudley, as a musician and a man--not only as an actor and a comedian...but also as an amazing human being. It is also the story of a rare and captivating friendship. Dudley Moore jumps right out of the pages of this book. I was thoroughly riveted and would highly recommend the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very personal and loving memoir, 25 Mar 2010
The author is not objective, since she experienced Dudley Moore's decline into disease and death firsthand. The book is flawed, and her writing is often painful (not in a good way). But, on the whole, the love she expresses was well-deserved. Dudley Moore was talented and funny, two qualities to be treasured. We need another Moore, warts and all, and I imagine the author would agree.
