This book must contain three of the best stories about the Fat Controller's railway, with 'Duck and the Diesel Engine' being my personal favourite. The language in them, as usual, echoes the sounds of real trains and the stories include linguistic jokes for we parents who have to read them night after night. The illustrations are a continual source of enjoyment and the trucks' song has become a part of our son's bedtime routine, so popular is this book. I still enjoy reading this one to my son, even though I'm pretty much word-perfect in it...! One criticism - my son loves the flyleaf of the original editions - it's a shame that the new edition hasn't incorporated it or something as interesting. Otherwise, four excellent, moral stories which continue to give great pleasure to one happy three year old (and his parents!).
