Aiming to find new Gems like the ones of Saint-Saens, Faure, C. Franck I am recently listening to music of Dubois who was a close friend of Saint-Saens and who had a shining fame during his life.
I recognised that shorter pieces of Dubois appeal to me more than the longer ones.
The reason might be that as a composer Dubois' outputs are in lack of those hidden motives which appear from time to time to remind us the main melody or melodies and where we had started and thus keep our focus till the end and bring us back to where we started, such things which makes us listeners happy. I feel as if he creates small pieces and puts them together to generate a longer piece but integrity is missing.
Shorter pieces and Trio No. 2 are beautiful. My lower ranking is for Dubois, not for the CD. The performance and recording are perfect. I recommend this CD to Chamber Music lovers who like to explore music of unknown composers.
