Product Description

Dublin and Kerry, were the aristocrats of Gaelic football, with over fifty All-Ireland titles between them, but as the 1974 season dawned the fans of these two great counties could not have guessed what lay ahead. For the first time, Tom Humphries tells the full story of Dublin and Kerry, on and off the field, over the decade that followed a decade defined by a rivalry that lifted the sport to heights of drama and popularity that it had never known before. With his unmatched knowledge of the men involved and his characteristic stylishness, Tom Humphries is the only writer who could have told this great story.

Great book if you grew up in the era. These guys were the heroes of their era and it was great to relive the memories and get some of the inside line. Like all great sports books it also tells of the times and gives an insight to Ireland in the seventies and eighties.

The inside story, by the people who were there. 8 Nov 2006
By Owen Leahy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
A wonderful book and a timely examination of the golden era of Gaelic football. Timely because the sport today just can't seem to match the games between Dublin & Kerry in terms of romanticism and improvisational brilliance.

The author does a trememdous job of revealing the human element behind the mythical achievements of these two incredible teams.

Anyone who lived through the rivaly was enriched by the experience. Two evenly matched teams, loaded with once-in-a-lifetime players, playing at the limit against each other for 5 unforgettable years.

As enjoyable as the insights and anecdotes are, for me the most rewarding aspect of the book is discovering the bonds and friendships that remain today between the two teams. The mutual respect was well earned but it's warming to see how they remain a feature of each other lives.

Hugely entertaining, funny and absolutely touching. I loved it.

Thank you Mr Humphries.
