More About the Author

Turtle Bunbury is a best-selling author and historian based in Ireland. His new book 'The Glorious Madness - Tales of the Irish & the Great War' (Gill & Macmillan) has been short-listed for the Best Irish-published Book of the Year 2014.

Turtle is probably best known for his 'Vanishing Ireland' books, three of which have all been separately shortlisted for the Best Irish-published Book of the Year award. Each book in this series comprises of approximately 50 short, humorous, informative and often poignant interviews with men and women of senior vintage from across Ireland. Their memories of the old days are juxtaposed with their thoughts on the present. Each book is handsomely illustrated with portrait photographs by renowned Irish photographer James Fennell.

Turtle's book, 'Sporting Legends of Ireland' was launched in September 2010 and nominated for the 2010 William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year Award. The book features portrait interviews with 44 icons of Irish sport including Olympic gold medallists Ronnie Delany, Michael Carruth and Mary Peters, GAA legends DJ Carey, Jack O'Shea and Mick O'Connell, equestrian giants Eddie Macken, Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh, and a host of world champions from Ken Doherty to Stephen Roche to Sonia O'Sullivan and Willie John McBride.

Turtle is also author of two lavishly illustrated coffee table books, 'The Irish Pub' and 'Living in Sri Lanka', both published by Thames & Hudson and featuring photographs by James Fennell.

Turtle is a professional historian and amongst his other published titles are 'Dublin Docklands' (a history of Dublin's dockland area), 'The Landed Gentry and Aristocracy of Co. Wicklow' and 'The Landed Gentry and Aristocracy of Co. Wicklow'.

Turtle lives in Co. Carlow with his wife Ally and two daughters, Jemima and Bay.
