Product Description

The Dualit Vario toaster combines simplicity and sophistication perfectly.

Dualit’s 3 slice Vario toaster can toast up to three slices of bread at a time, with the option to heat only 2 slots if necessary.

It features extra wide 28mm slots to accommodate a sandwich cage. ProHeat elements increases toasting efficiency and element longevity,

The toaster has a removable crumb tray and an adjustable rear foot.

Manually operated, the Dualit toaster features switches to control the degree of browning. This allows you to enjoy your toast exactly the way you like it. An ejector system means that the toast does not pop up but stays warm until the ejector lever is pushed up.

Each of these Dualit toasters is assembled by hand and the assembler's individual mark can be found on the base plate.

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Dualit Vario toaster makes great toast, looks stunning and is built to last. This three-slice model has a classic stainless steel finish. The three slots are 28 mm wide with self-adjusting wire guards to automatically accommodate a broad range of bread thicknesses. The slots also support the separately available sandwich cage, which is a useful addition for making toasted sandwiches, buns and crumpets, though it is possible to toast the latter without a cage.

The Dualit is a sturdy beast with a retro look. It weighs in at around 4 kg and has minimal controls, all with a reassuringly solid feel. The red backlit slot-selector switch lights up to tell you when the toaster is in use and can be set for two or three slices. This is important, as the toaster uses a patented ProHeat element that is optimised to quickly produce evenly cooked toast. However, the element's lifespan may be shortened if a slot is regularly heated while empty. A black rotary time switch means that you need to determine how long you want to toast each and every time you use the Dualit, rather than relying on a default setting as seen with other toasters.

One of the advantages of the Dualit toaster is that the bread doesn't pop up when the timer is finished. Instead, you need to press down the central black ejector knob to remove your toast. This ensures that your toast stays warm for longer if you are not there to remove it straightaway. Another component of note is a useful slide-out crumb tray. Results are impressive, with beautifully even toasting in all slots and up to 98 slices per hour (three medium slices from cold takes around two minutes). However, the most compelling reason for putting a Dualit toaster in your kitchen is its perfect blend of durability and style. --Heather Wilson

Having moved to a new house with a lousy grill we eventually thought a toaster was necessary. Bought the Dualit 3 slice - excellent - it makes great toast and works well even making toasties in the cage. Excellent machine does not even make a mess and there seems nothing to go wrong that cannot be repalced - very pleased.

I bought a Dualit 3 slice + Sandwich cage, after years of annoying toasters with flimsy pop up racks that were always jamming due to me trying to toast something other than standard sliced, or left me fishing around with a knife to recover smaller things like crumpets etc. So I took the plunge and bought a Dualit even though they cost so much, the casing is way over designed and the technology crude, but I thought durable. Well it lasted less than a week before the timer stuck and set fire to the toast, no doubt I was unlucky (or maybe not!). But as a toaster its design was less than practicable. The slots are shaped to accept that standard sliced bread again, and I found many of my slices were left with an end poking out and needed to be turned over. The elements may be durable but they don't toast any more evenly than other toasters, at 30mm wide the slots are ok for an average slice, thin slices tend to fall over and get toasted unevenly, and the sandwich rack really won't accept anything other than shop sliced bread, there is only one heat setting which is too high for toasted sandwiches as the filling doesn't get hot enough before the outside of the toast is done! So I returned the Dualit and got a refund rather than a replacement.

It's expensive, but it's great, well-built and works fine. Overall, I'm glad I bought this and not a cheaper model.

I have to agree with the long lasting reviews. Mine is over twenty years old and still going strong. Parts are available on Amazon and easily fitted. The elements do go after about ten years and I had to replace the timer after fifteen. You can take it apart easily with a Phillips screwdriver to clean the metalwork every so often - say three years.

However, long lasting does not deserve five stars. My previous toasters did not last and produced inconsistent results. It is possible that technology has moved on and Dualit has not but the best thing about these toasters is that they do not try to heat the bread too quickly which means you get consistent, predictable, results.

Mine came with the sandwich toasting cage (now an accessory) and was a messy problem until I was introduced to Lakeland's reusable, dishwasher safe, toasting bags which are worth their weight in gold.

Yes, I would definitely go for Dualit again and being fed up with kettles malfunctioning I bought a Dualit kettle which is still going strong but only a fledgling at eight years.
