Do you always get what you pay for anymore?,

This review is from: Dualit Hand Mixer Chrome 88400 (Kitchen & Home)
I'm on my second mixer! I was really impressed by the appearance of my mixer when it arrived-heavy, good looks, easy to hold, retractable cable, powerful motor. In use, initially at least, it was brilliant except that although there are six settings, anything over setting 3 seems the same - powerful. This is a minor thing. After 3 months, the beaters stopped rotating during usage even though the motor continued to work. The machine was replaced and after a year, the same fault has developed in the machine. I am really disappointed because I love using the machine but do not have enough faith in it now to buy another but there don't appear to be any other reasonable quality hand mixers in the UK which are tough enough for weekly use (twice a week). Sorry Dualit, but I don't think that this is too much to ask.

I've just returned my second Dualit hand mixer- same fault- beaters not turning although motor is running. It seems the gears are made of plastic and shear apart very easily. I'm not a professional cook and this has only been used four times for light use- whipping cream, cake making- with (very soft) butter. Not good build quality for a 'Professional' mixer! Waste of money.

This is an excellent hand mixer, exspensive but you really do get what you pay for. The build quality is very high, and the retracting power cable is a really useful and plug locater is a nice touch. The motor is powerful and provides consistent mixing speeds, and not too noisy even on the higher settings, the hooks and whisk supplied work well. The mixer seems quite sturdy, (another reviewer noted that theres had broken after being dropped three times - I suppose it depends how high and what onto, my kenwood suffered a similar fate), and is comfortable to hold and use. I would recommend using with a good quality heavy bowl. Overall, a nicely designed product with excellent performance, made for use not just to look good, happy cooking!
