5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased, 4 Sep 2008
I've had this machine for a week now and I'm very pleased. I must admit I sourced it from another store where I had some gift vouchers. I couldn't find any user reviews of the machine so I was keen to help anyone considering this machine.

I'd give it a 9 out of 10 but that's not an option so I've gone for 5 stars.

I use it with a Krups Coffee mill and to me, the coffee (appearance, crema, aroma and taste) is excellent.

I shopped around for a while and I'd compared this to the Gaggia machines. The Gaggia machines costing less than GBP200 seemed to not be as robust as this. The only weakness when compared to the more expensive `Gaggia Black Espresso Pure' (about GBP 30 more) is that the filter holder/ handle does not feel as weighty. I'm told by a Gaggia salesman in my local store that this is important; however the Dualit handle feels solid enough to do the job and to last, so I can't see this as an issue.

This machine is almost all metal and feels very solid. The water tank can be topped up in situ, or easily removed from the back to be emptied or washed. The steamer works well. I've made Espresso, Latte, Cappuccino and Americano and they all taste as good as anything from one of the big chain coffee shops.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Italian and under £200?, 19 Feb 2009

Read the manual and be prepared for a few under par attempts but once you get the hang of it you won't look back - Interesting comment on an earlier review about temperature - my machine had a supplementary page with the manual telling you to fill your cup first with hot water from the machine. If you use large, cold crockery and cold milk I can see what they mean. Watch out for that learning curve then enjoy your coffee!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Budget Machine, 10 Mar 2009
By C. A. Oman (Scotland) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
I recently picked this machine out for a friend and I was very impressed. It makes a good shot of espresso and seems to have been well designed. The best feature is that the steam wand is a traditional steam wand. The stupid foam attachment can be very easily taken off to reveal a normal steam wand which is by FAR the best style to create a really good milk based coffee.
The only down side is that the portafilter is a bit cheap feeling but overall the machine is fantastic. I'd say it was the best machine for under £300.
Important point! Don't skimp on a grinder! It's just as important if not more so. Spend at least £60 on a grinder.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and fiddly to maintain; good froth though
