For years, my wife has been in search of the "perfect" frother for her daily cappuccino. We have an excellent cappuccino maker (DeLonghi), that produces good froth. But we have learned over the years and several very good domestic use cappuccino makers that the frothing component in such machines is never quite as good as the coffee-making component. (It may be different if we were to buy a commercial machine, for which we have neither the space nor the budget. Also, maintaining those machines is a hassle.) This Dualit Latteccino looks like the one. We have had it for about a week now. It has produced perfect milky froth since then - every time. The temperature and consistency of the froth is, for us, perfect. (If you are a follower of "flat whites", this may not be for you; although we haven't yet got round to experimenting to see if the machine could produce a good "flat white".) If you follow the simple instructions, it does exactly what it says, without fail. Manufactured in Germany, it looks and behaves and sounds much a like a top German car: very solidly built in all ways and amazingly quiet. It is simple to use and to maintain: be careful to follow the clear instructions for either cappuccino frothing or "heating" (for hot chocolate and other drinks, for which you need to heat milk with just a little froth). We over-filled it the first time: it delivered perfect froth, but some of the hot milk escaped. All you have to do is fill it with the right milk (we use semi-skimmed anyway, which is recommended by Dualit), close the lid properly and press a button. Lovely Dr Who blue glow, and after a minute or so you are presented with perfectly warmed froth with just about enough milk for two big cappuccino cups. If you, like us, prefer bigger cappuccinos, this maker will only make enough for two. You will have to wait a couple of minutes while the thermostat cools before you make the next round. But this is not really a problem, as the wait is short enough. Follow the easy maintenance instructions: you must clean out the milk chamber and the top with frothing or heating attachment after use. This is simple, and the trick is not to immerse either in water. Just a careful wipe with a soapy cloth does it. Then wipe again to remove the soap. My wife has decided not to use the frother on her DeLonghi expresso/cappuccino maker, because this is so much better. We'll report again after time about the longevity of the machine. But, in the meantime, if you like your cappuccino we highly recommend this machine, even if it is pricey. If you use it instead of buying one cappuccino every day, it will pay for itself in less than six months.
