This toaster is very disappointing and a waste of money. I can't believe the cost of it given its performance.
There are a number of issues with it. If you need to use the toaster twice in a row, say if you use the two slots for large long pieces of bread, the second batch will burn on the same setting. Even if you turn the control down, the edges will be burnt and one side darker and burnt in parts. Overall, it always toasts unevenly and its performance is inconsistent, even if you use the same setting each day. Use any setting higher than 4, you will have burnt bits. Any lower, it doesn't really toast.
It does have a lift and peek feature but you shouldn't have to stand over a toaster lifting and peeking because if you don't, the toast will burn. It just means you can't get on with anything else while your toaster is on, which is ridiculous!
I wrote to Dualit and complained, they referred me to advice in the instruction book that bore no resemblance to the instructions I had. I told them this and they were unconcerned. We returned the toaster to Dualit. It came back and and they said it has been thoroughly tested by an 'Engineer' and there was nothing wrong with it but reminded me that the bagel feature would leave one side untoasted. You don't say!! Patronising and unhelpful . My experience with their Customer Services has left me very dissatisfied.
All in all, given the price of this, it is a SHOCKINGLY awful product and I'd advise people not to buy. Check out the Which? reviews and buy yourself a cheaper and better toaster.

After just 21 months our dualit toaster stopped working. I wrote to Dualit whose customer service manager Matthew Shelley told me:
- "it is unlikely that we would be able to repair the toaster due to the nature of its construction"
- "I can offer you a 40% discount on the price of a replacement , if purchased direct from Dualit".
This toaster replaced a Rowenta model which was 18 years old, Since mentioing this my relative has said she bought a dualit kettle and toaster and has now changed them in less than 3 years. STEER CLEAR!!
I personally would NEVER EVER BUY DUALIT FOR ANYTHING.
