I bought this guide on the recommendation of a Master Craftsman, when I took up walling recently. It is an excellent manual with clear illustrations showing both best practice and the pitfalls to avoid. It goes from basics right through to advanced features and covers the range of British walling styles. A brilliant book.

This is not only well written, well illustrated and throughly researched, it's also well-thought out as a robust ring-bound book for being dumped on the ground, covered in muck as you work.

Excellent book if you want to build dry stone walls in your area. Easy to follow, sensible practical instructions which match the real world with an awareness of regional differences in available materials. Building walls of natural stone in your area would not, for instance, work if you were following advice from a one-size-fits-all manual. Round boulders, for example, have a different technique to flat square type stone. A really useful manual written by people who have obviously acquired their skills through practical hands-on experience.

A good insight

Way too technical for the layperson
