Comedy records? How many times can you listen to them and still be amused? With this CD you might be very pleasantly surprised. If you don't like Monty Python the answer is "turn it off, I can't stand it!" One obvious disadvantage is that the visual nature of the sketches doesn't come across very well, so you can hear a buzz going round the audience and only imagine what has caused it ("the very silly candidate, inside the block of concrete" for example). This CD, assuming that it is merely a rerelease of the 1974 Charisma LP, is exactly as promised, you get a collection of sketches, exactly as they were performed, at least 25 years ago, with a few added voiceovers - opening with Michael Palin's reverent whispers, as though it was the last night of the proms. Not all of the sketches work, Flower Arranging won't mean anything to you, unless it already does, and Cleese is completely OTT in the Secret Service, which seems adlibbed, and does not get anywhere near the heights of the Twin Peaks of Kilimajaro, also performed by Cleese and Idle, that isn't included here - more's the pity. I remain intrigued, but unconvinced by The Cocktail Bar, although like Election Special the situation that they are having a go at has become more worthy of parody over the years. Whilst the first side of the record is patchy, it does include 3 of Eric's classics, Nudge Nudge, The Communist Quiz and The Travel Agent, and also Neil Innes's brilliant Idiot Song. The second side, however, contains material that is amongst their very best.Read more ›

If you are looking for a Python performance which highlights their best humour, this is the one to get. All the classic sketches are here ,apart from the "Cheese" one. Although it a recording of some very visual skits, if you let the imagination go, you should get teh humour. Essential Monty Python.

This is an album that I first bought back in the 70's. It was my first real introduction to "The Pythons". It contains all their great sketches and to add to it a live audience. This is a must all "Python" fans old or new

This is a great collection of some of the more memorable audio-style gags, including the Lumberjack song, the Bruces and the very funny Nudge Nudge Wink Wink Know What I Mean sketch.
Listening to it you realise what an impact they had on comedy and how a lot of it has entered and informs today's vernacular. The overriding impression from this collection is what fun they had doing it - every sketch has energy and a life of its own.
Not being old enough to remember the Python's original run this is a great way to access their material - it's the funniest jokiest, most songful and liveliest stuff.

There is fluctuation in the sound levels & some of the tracks are hard to hear but funny never the less.
